    Well,
if the reports are accurate and the EU version will be lacking the full buffer render mode, you can console yourself with at least a progressive output from the PS3....so 576p anyway (60hz issues may come into it though with emulation.....although with the extra wait for the EU version, that may have been taken into account)
Thought the game wasn't out until the end of the month though ?

I know, but it will be worth the wait! Plus, as the game time stands at 10 hours approx, it should be possible to complete it over the weekend!!
    (Maybe even in one sitting!)

    :D

Look like the 576p output from the PAL version via PS3 emulation has been confirmed, as well as the removal of the 60Hz output.
Apparently not required due to the optimized nature of the PAL developed game, so all should be well for PS3 usage..

For those who haven't heard, you can Unlock HD mode for God of War 2. I haven't tried this yet but basically it's:

As the game boots up, even before the SCEA Presents screen appears, hold L1+ L2+ L3+ Square and Circle. If you have done this correctly, the legal screen will appear in purple.

Yea, something about not having enough space on the disk.

You're kidding, surely? PAL encoding takes up more disk space? Didn't think those few extra lines we get would be that significant.

Ah well, I guess I'll just have to console myself with the knowledge that PAL displays better than NTSC. :D

I didn't finish the first one either, the final boss battle seemed nigh on impossible to me.

Still great game, got part two yesterday.

Got the special edition in today.

Question about the game looking better on a PAL PS3 than a NTSC PS2 in "HD Mode", is this true of all PS2 games? Does say, Shadow of the Colossus look better on the PS3 with the games own Progressive scan mode turned off? I've been playing Shadow on the PS3 with it turned on.

I have rarely been so furstrated by a boss battle. I think I sat down for three hours straight - coming up to the Leaving Cert and all - defeating that dastard. He had a number of shockingly unfair tactics that really could turn the battle around in a few seconds, often rendering five - ten minutes of good work completely pointless.

For those who have this, how does it measure up to the last? Im intrigued, but may wait until its cheaper if it is as similar to the last as some reliable sources say.

When I beat first God of War I was just getting off completing Devil May Cry 3 on the highest difficulty (my eyes nearly bled) so the hardest part of God of War was how how utterly imprecise and haphazard the combat felt by comparison. I'm hoping to have a better experience with GOW 2 since I'm not in that "urge!" mindset.

    This game is so good!
Granted not much in the way of new ideas but SCEA have found a great formula for a fun and engrossing game! The brutality of Kratos has taken a step up. Dont really wanna talk about anything I've experienced in the game so far, in case I wreck it for someone else!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

Its good so far.Particurly like the fact that you are basically thrown into a boss battle straight away and get some naked ladies to satisfy early on.:D

Ah come on. He was tough but every attack he had could be dodged. Compared to some of the bastards in Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry 3 he was a push over. I've a philosophy for boss battles that always works. Defense is far more important than attack. Take it slow, try to take as little damage as possible while slowly causing some damage. Block and dodge were your best friend in GoW especially dodge which rendered you invulnerable.

As for GoW 2, it's absolutely brilliant. I had only one big problem with GoW 1 and that was the lack of boss battles. I'm only 5 hours into a supposedly 20 hour game and there have been loads of boss battles and not 1 of them has been a let down. These guys are quite tough and you are going to get nowhere if you don't use block and dodge effectively.

I think the golden fleece power up really is one of the best gameplay upgrades the game has. Being able to deflect attacks adds a whole new dimension to the game.

The game is similar to the first game but just brought on to a whole new level of awesome that I didn't think existed.

There are some problems, the PAL conversion isn't perfect. It runs at full speed and full screen but sometimes there are V-syncing screen build up problems. However this is only a very minor niggle.

Hmm Ive finished all three, and with the possible exception of that irritating bat lady from DMC3, the final GoW one had me pulling most hairs. Although the post battle
    throne room scene
was pretty cool if I remember correctly. A good ending for a game makes a change.

He's a complete arsehole and thats what I like about him :-)

Story isn't the best in this game and be prepared for an ending that rivals Halo 2's lameness.

Nah, I think Edge magazine mentioned that the Kratos character is one of the weaker of the character designs in the game.[/qoute]

GoW's end battles were not too bad,
the first Ares fight, mostly just knowing when to block and when to roll, I used one of the spin attacks (can't remember the name, but it was block and Triangle), and using magic.

The clone fight was a bitch until I changed the way I approached the fight, and did it nearly right away. I had been going for the guy on the floating platform (with Zeus' lightning) and hadn't used power of the gods much (saved it for "when i needed it", instead I used it early and got another late in the fight). I started using the souls too (great in this fight), and hug hug hug when the souls are busy ripping the clones up.

The second Ares fight was really easy, block block block, spin blade attacks, roll away from the pillars he summons. Dead boss

Haven't started GoW2 yet, I've promised myself I'll finish off Okami first.

And what's not to love about Kratos? He's a total badass.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,410 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

He's a much weaker character in the second game. He's just an out and out badass in this one who is going around kicking everybodies arse because he got scolded like a bold child. There's no other side to his character like we saw in the first game when you did feel a bit of emotion for him because of what happened to his family.

A lot of people who had trouble with the last boss of GoW are going to have trouble with the bosses in this game especially the last few. You really need to use block, roll and the golden fleece to stand a chance. If you do use them they aren't hard at all. I have to say there isn't a bad boss fight in the game with the majority being amazing. It's great to see some decent boss designs coming from a developement team that isn't from japan.

Really liked it. Kratos was totally badass, love the way he crapped on several greek heroes.

Was it me or was the last battle button push sequenses alot quicker than the normal ones. Loved the puzzles, a few of them were "surely it can't be that".

New weapons and powers were cool. Atlas was class. Waay too many timing puzzles, i hate them but they made the game interesting.

Bosses were good, i'd to look up gamesfaqs once on how to defeat one of them.

The story was good,I'd read Dan Simmons's book olympus, it kind of reminded me of that. Pissed that i finished it so quickly but then again i was at it most of the weekend. Looks like and hopefully there will be a 3rd.

Did anyone encounter 20 cyclops, i came across a few but definately not 20.

I only got 4 cyclops eyes. It seems you can only get them off the cyclops that can be ridden. You probably have to wait around for those riders to sound their horns (talk about innuendo  ) for more to appear.
