ME and the lads are thinking of a round the world trip - with only 4 weeks to do it.

    Is this a good idea?
Were thinking Bangkok (we've been to thailand already and dnt mind only staying there a few days), then onto somewhere in austraila for a week, then somewhere in new zealend for a week, then to hong kong for a few days then to the US for a few days and then back to london.

What do you think? Would it be ridiculous or anyone done something like this before?

i did a roundtheworld in 104 days. dublin-san fran-LA-fiji-new zealand-australia-singapore-malaysia-thailand-cambodia-dublin. it was a lot to squeeze in to that much time. the flights cost around 1400 quid through trailfinders.

to do the trip you're planning you'd end up exceeding your mileage limit. hong kong first then bangkok then on to oz would make more sense. call in to trailfinders on dawson street and they'll help you with preparing an itinerary.

I think thats a bit mad. I mean you'll spend more time jet lagged and on an airplane than actually enjoying your trip. Why not choose a part of a continent? Just do Peru and Bolivia in South America, or Laos/Cambodia in South East Asia etc. I think you'll get more out of the experience than arriving somewhere, getting used to it, then having to leave again!

Also, you're going to have to just choose one place to see in each country as you won't be able to venture too far from the airports - and if you get it wrong, you're stuck.

If I were you, I'd save my money until you could do it properly, or choose one/two places and actually have a holiday!

Did it over the space of two years and at that missed out on asia and the far east, You would be better off going to a once off place like of Thailand or Australia for the month instead of spending time hopping on and off jet planes.

Seems a horrible waste of time to me. Between jetlag, travelling you'll barely get time to appreciate anywhere. Find somewhere good for 30 days instead, or a few places close by, and explore them.

I don't mean to be nasty, but it sounds like ye guys more interested in 'ticking off the locations' rather than actually thinking about what you want to get out of the trip .... you'll end up coming back and having been to 6/7 countries, but not being able to say anything about any of them! Where's the fun in that!

I spent a year going halfway around the world, and could have spent 2 - missed out on south america, so am going to spend 3 months at the end of the year doing just one or two countries over there - its a lot more managable that way!
