    Hi guys,

What is the story with people talking in the library, is it ok to tell them to shush or are you best off reporting them??

Just ask them to be quiet and if they don't then report them. It's unfortunate that the hoise levels seem to build in the run up to exams.

Yeah, just shush them. If it were me i would be a bit embarrassed for annoying you. The worst is those meetings on the stairs...

Yeah, those people who decide to have mass meetings and discuss their life stories on the stairs really piss me off.

well if you used the library more often you may realise that the word talking has actually got a "g" at the end.

These guys have gotta be kidding. We are discussing "talking" in a "library" aren't we? I've known that was wrong ever since I saw ghostbusters. Its kinda like peeing in the pool.

I don't like what you're implying. Are you trying to say that it's somehow wrong to pee in the pool?

I'd like to add that those study rooms are not soundproof. People seem to think it's ok to scream in them

Pfft...we'll take our screaming contests somewhere where theyre more appreciated so!

I'd normally just be in the library to get books out or sort out assignments in one the rooms but today was one of the rare times that i was in there to actually study and holy **** are the poeple loud!!

The library isn't the place to ask each other questions on an exam or talk on the phone...even if you are whispering..really really quietly!!!

I have stopped going to the library to study/use a computer to print off things etc. The amount of air heads and selfish people that use the library as their regular meeting place is sickening. I've stopped getting angry about it now because it's coming toward the end of this academic year, and the first years that are coming in are going to wreck everyone's heads again. If there were designated areas for specific years of study (which would be a breach of rights I know) It would help so much! They could put a paddling pool and a ball pit in there for the you-know-whos.

This would be breaching peoples rights about as much as National Identity Cards. It's a great idea.

Doesn't it seem wrong that in a Library they have designated "Quiet Study Areas"?

The library is really empty today. And quiet........

I don't see how that's a breach of rights. That's what we have in the Computing building, one lab is reserved for 3rd and 4th years, it's not too bad once the 3rd years head off on INTRA and it's just 4th years left.

To be honest i find the DCU library to be a total disaster.

Im doing a masters in DCU having done my undergrad in UCD. While in UCD the only place i could motivate myself to study was the library. it was reasonably quiet, and at exam times they had staff going around and moving people on who were having a chat.

Even in non-exam times when theres not many people in the library that place is loud. People seem to go to the library to have a chat. people are studying for EXAMS ffs. its completely disrespectful, not to mention the fact that youre actually SUPPOSED to be quiet in a library.

The layout of the library doesnt really help. theres no doors or anything to cut off noise from the stairs & its all very open and the noise travels.

Ive taken to studying at home now, something i was never able to do for the 4 years of my undergrad because that library is just far too noisy.

    [/rant]

On a positive note, them collaborative study rooms are handy for doing group projects..

the only way to get things like this fixed is to put in formal reports, go to te SU or somthing.

personally, i never found it that bad. queueing for a printer was the real pain

The most annoying thing about the library is people that use the computers to look at bebo or their fantasy football teams or watch the OC or Entourage( even though its the best show ever!) when you are standing there waiting to print off a report that is due in by a certain time. Bebo should just be banned in the library altogether, block the website. As for the talking in the library there are designated quiet study areas in the library that are really quiet. You know that if you study on the long desks on the top floor that there is going to be people talking and walking past you every two minutes.
