    Hi There,

I just bought a cheap bass with P-J pickups.

I have a couple of old jazz pickups that will be better then the bridge pickup, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend a cheap P pickup to replace the one in there with?

By budget on this would be less then 50 euro. Much less if possible.

This is really only a project/fun bass. I may be travelling and this is headless and bolt-on so I can take the neck off and fit it easily in a suitcase.

    Any ideas - thoughts?

    - Altoid.

You could try some GFS pickups from Guitar Fetish. They're a highly rated company. http://store.guitarfetish.com/gfsbasspickups.html

Try and get a Seymour Duncan maybe. http://www.guitarelectronics.com is good for them in my experience. If your budget is any lower than that, you might consider just sticking with the stock pickups until you can save some more cash. Arguably, the improvement might not be worth it.

    Reverend Guitars.
I have one of their Precision style pickups. i think it cost me about €25 shipped. (that was a while back)

Great sounding pickup, very punchy and full sounding.

Heard great things about Reverend and their pickups, good call Joe Robot! Also consider a Select by EMG. Had one of these many years back, a very, very nice sounding pickup, one of the best P pickups I ever heard.

    Thanks for the replies!

It's not so much a problem with saving for more money, as me just not wanting to put more money into this bass. I have some really nice other basses and this one is just for a bit of fun.

To be honest I've tried the Select EMGs and never liked them, I have a set of their Jazz pickups, but I'll check out the Reverends and might give them a go.

    Cheers,

For those getting or have got GFS pickups, how much is the shipping for small items like those? If I was to get a few bits and pieces, Pups, tuners, bridge, stuff like that, Would the shipping be any more than $20-25? I sent them an email, but they haven't replied yet. Also, how does stuff like this rate as far as customs is concerned? Is everything that comes in fair game, or just the big stuff like guitars?

    Thank you

Shipping from gfs is cheap, can't remember what exactly but cheap cheap. Regarding customs, if it's a discreet package and the total price isn't too much you should get away with it.

    Thanks Doc.

I was able to check the cost of shipping by adding stuff to the shopping cart as if putting in an order. Two pick ups, a bridge and a set of tuners, with shipping by 'Air Letter' to Ireland is $20 and with EMS Global Express, is $38

I've heard a lot of good things about the GFS pickups and from a few different places.
