Inspiron 6400: Cannot read CD's

Hi guys, just wondering if any of you have any ideas on this one?

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 notebook, a couple of months ago (a week after the warranty had expired  ) The DVD/RW drive (TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L532B) stopped reading CD's, either burnt or original discs. The funny thing is that it will still read DVD's fine but doesn't recognise compact discs at all.

    Anybody experienced/resolved a similar problem?

Had the same problem on a few drives over the years!! Latest one is reading DVD's not a bother and not reading CD's!!
There is a twin type laser in them afaik and one has failed!!

Doesn't look good so. The DVD drive appears to be in-built as well and I'm not sure how easy it would be to replace it. Has anybody replaced these on the 6400 and was it much hassle?
Thanks for the quick reply jonny

It's held in with one screw on the bottom of the machine.
