2 bikes were stolen from East Point this morning. They took one bike, drove around and took a guy in my office's bike and then rode out! :( Luckily mine wasn't touched.

It was sporty but I've completely forgotten what model it was! It wasn't locked thou. I have a luminious oxford disk alarm on mine in but I'm going to start using a chain in work too and that alarm that has been sitting in it's box for months is going on tomorrow! We got an email from EP management saying to lock up etc cos 2 bikes have been stolen in 3 weeks and that while the cops were in with them 3 more reports came over the radio about stolen bikes in the area. They left notices on all the bikes too. They drove in the front took the bike and drove out the back entrance - only one bike was taken today i was told earlier it was two.

Hey TK123, remember last year I put up a thread about my bike getting messed with in East Point ?, that same time I seen a bike being pushed out of the park and the security did nothing.

    Glad I'm not there anymore.

Same in Finglas too, 4 fellas were lifting my pals bike (old pos 125) away last week but dropped it when he shouted at them. He was away for just 10mins, locked it close to junction that goes from finglas/cappagh to snugboro/blanch back roads.
    Can't be too careful!

Use chains when you can people, they are far better than disc locks

These horror stories have made me even more paranoid!

My bike is now chained to the bike shed with the disc lock on and if the alarm sounds, the beeper in my pocket will go off so I can run down to murder a knacker or two!

I never locked my bike in work... :o Too lazy and it's safe enough*

*won't be "safe enough" the day it goes missing, I know...

A friend of mine was contracting in East Point for a week. Two guys rode in on the one bike, past security, took my friend's pristine RVF400, and the pair of them rode out, past the same security. To paraphrase Inigo Montoya: "Security", you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I cant understand how people skimp on bike security. I see these so called motocycle locks for sale in German supermarkets that I wouldnt even secure an push bike with. I would invest the same amount of money into securing a bike as would put into a decent lid.

That's my attitude I have to admit... If my beeper sounds in the middle of the night I'm running down to my bike half naked with a butcher's knife in hand... God will decide what happens next

It depends which half is naked, you could find the butchers knife being used to chop sausage:eek:

Probably the bottom half unfortunately... It's my technique! Hope to startle them with my sausage and scare them away!

However, being half asleep and running with a knife in hand whilst being half naked is probably not a good idea... Hmmm... Should re-think this one!

FFS  there wouldn't be so many bike thieves if there weren't so many easy pickings about. Sure, the pros can steal just about anything but they all start somewhere, eejits not locking their bikes are just encouraging more scumbags to get into stealing bikes.
Ex-cagers just into bikes are the worst, I've told one who works near me a few times that he is practically asking for his bike to be robbed but he won't listen!

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

I know - it was a bit retarded tbh not to lock it!! I always have mine locked and tight in at the wall especially after K-TRIC said his was messed with - thanks for that!! Anyhoos mine would have been safe with the keys in I think since I have a giant pink sticker on the tank - it's of Homer as Mr. Sparkle:D I've also decided that my bike could look quite fetching with some sticky-on flames on the tank - which would also make it more girly and less desirable to scumbag thieves :D;)
