    I ned to reset the ECU but was wondering if iimmobiliser will have to be reprogrammed after disconnecting battery?

    It shouldn't. I disconnected the battery a few times when I had a Focus (changing stereo, new battery etc.) with no issues. The one thing to keep in mind for the future is that you're looking at a big money job if you need a new key and you don't have at least two others already programmed.

    How come you need to "reset the ECU" anyway?

    No - the immobiliser will be fine after disconnecting the battery. It retains its programming as does the ECU. Disconnecting the battery will probably not result in a full 'reset' of the ECU.
