Is it worth reporting bad driving?

Just out of the car, hopping mad... I travel a nice road to work every morning, its not meant and cannot be driven quickly due to farm machinery and lots of tourists, anyhow, had this guy this morning tailgaiting me all the way into the town, i was trying to keep my speed up without being excessive but he lost the plot on a very bad stretch of road and tried to overtake me (solid white line), could'nt get in safely as the car in front of me braked to go round a bend and it cut the distance down so he overtook both cars (narrowly missing an oncoming car).

Not only that, he then proceeded to overtake the school bus in front of us on an utterly blind bend, causing the bus to swerve into the kerb to avoid him, agian, narrowly missing and oncoming car, just beyond the blind bend is a long straight stretch of road where it's entirely saf to overtake (assuming no oncoming traffic).

Coming into town then he overtook 3 cars following a tractor, again on a solid white line, again, narrowly missing a car coming the other way

My point I suppose is, is this really worth reporting ? Angry as I am over this, the garda station is a good distance from me now and the traffic in the town at this time of day is nuts, will anything be done if I report this nutter?

    FBP.

ring and report him/her, if you got the reg plate. I would imagine a case like this would be followed, and you would have to make a statement, and potentially a day in court to back your claim. People like his should not be on the road, you'd be doing us all a favour.

Problem is proof, its your word against His/Hers. They have nothing to go on, so they will prob do nothing about it.

It may not lead to a summons but the probability is that the Gardai will contact him and warn him off; if nothing else. There is nothing to lose by phoning a complaint in.

i'm sure it wouldn't be hard for the gardí to track down the bus driver and ask him about the incident (maybe they won't bother doing it anyway) I'm sure the OP has some idea of what shcool the bus was servicing.

a witness statement is as good a piece of evidence as you can get. if you or other witnesses made such a statement to the gardai, they may then take a cautioned statement from the offending party. remember that most people will not purger themselves in court and that there is likely to be a thorough investigation before it even gets to that stage.

report him, he should be stopped before he kills someone

You should report him to Garda Traffic Watch on 1890 205805

I don't think they do anything on a single report but they log it. I heard a rumour that if they get multiple reports of the same reg number, even for different incidences then they may contact the driver.

I called the local station & reported him, gave the details & that of the school bus (didn't get the reg tho)...

they asked me to drop by as soon as I was able to put it in writing.

Not sure if the guy is local or not, from the place of his manoevering, I'd guess not but I travel the road everyday and its not a road you'd use unless you knew it..... Will be watching for him tho...

Hopefully something will come of it...
