It might be just your brakepads might need to be replaced.

probably just need new brake pads, if its a mental on metal sound.

First off, have your pad thickness checked in case it's due to to pad wear and only coincidental with the 'fall' off the kerb.

Apart from that, you should really have it looked at from underneath/behind the wheel in case it's something serious. Offhand, I can't think of anything that would cause a noise with brake application, unless you've bent a cowl or something similar.

Impossible to say without seeing the car - really.

Brake pads, like other components, wear. As they wear they don't necessarily result in poorer braking efficiency. It's possible that they were close to the wear limit at the time of the NCT and, since then, have worn to an unacceptable level.

Get it checked - until you do, anything else is pure speculation.

Possibly a bit of gravel or a pebble lodged in the caliper? Happened me once - brutal grinding noise.

Give it a thorough visual inspection just in case. Also look at the disk through the wheel - can you see any mark that might be from gravel/pebble? (might be powdery/dusty). Feel with your finger (not when disc is hot obviously!).
