    Hi just looking for advice.
I am currently in Australia and some how have managed to put my passport threw the washing machine. I don't think it is damaged too badly but friends don't think it will be accepted.
I am flying out to Bangkok in 3 days and will be traveling through Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and China.
Will the Irish Embassy issue me with a temporary passport and if so how long will it be valid for?? Will a temporary be accepted in the countries I intend on traveling through??
Nice way to spend my last few days in Oz!!!
    Thanks for advice

They may be able to issue you a temporary passport in this case, but you really need to start ringing the other embassies of the countries your visiting and find out if it will get you through.

It depends on how mutilated the passport is and if the RFID circuitry is damaged. All Irish passports from 16 October 2006 are Biometric and carry a built in Radio transmitter chip that stores information on yourself. It can transmit personal data for up to several metres from your passport. You should contact the Irish Consulate Immediately; some airlines such as Ryanair will not accept a damaged or mutilated passport. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biometric_passport

    Embassy of Ireland in Canberra, Australia - 20 Arkana Street, Yarralumla, ACT 2600, Canberra, Australia. Tel: (61) 06 273 3022. Fax: (61) 06 273 3741.
