Dreambox and dynamic dns...

    As part of my setup, I initially used dyndns - with their update client software running on my pc. This was not ideal (pc wouldnt be running all of the time) so when I swapped out routers (to one which supported dyndns), I found it worked much better.

    However, yesterday dyndns blocked my account on the basis of 'abusive updates'. It seems the router in question updates far too often for their liking.

    I was just wondering if its possible to put a dynamic dns updater client on the dreambox itself? Does such a thing exist?

    the gemini images has inadyn plugin in extra/settings which should work. you can select how often you want it updated. never used it myself but should work.

    Or get a static IP from your ISP.
    Breeze, FWA Wireless, Cable and Metro can often effectively be static. ADSL you need you actually order it.

    On higher Metro packs the IP is static.

    Thanks for that mayto - will check that out when I go home. I have the latest gemini image but I never noticed that option.

    I'm on the 1MB package with BT. Had a look at their website and don't see it as an optional extra. I suppose I would have to get a business package.

    With a bit of luck, the former option will do the trick though.

    Hi,
    I have inadyn installed on my gemin 4.4 (in dm800).
    But when I start the deamon I get this error in the log file :

    INADYN: Started 'INADYN version 1.96' - dynamic DNS updater.
    INADYN:IP: Error 0x83 in recv()
    W: DYNDNS: Error 'RC_IP_RECV_ERROR' (0x15) when talking to IP server
    W:'RC_IP_RECV_ERROR' (0x15) updating the IPs. (it 0)

    my settings are :

    INADYN_ON=1
    INADYN_USERNAME=my-login.email-address
    INADYN_PASSWORD=my-password
    INADYN_ALIAS=my-no-ip-address
    UPDATE_PERIOD=9000000
    LOG_FILE_ON=1
    LOG_NAME=/var/log/inadyn.log
    DNS_SYSTEM_ON=1
    DYN_SYSTEM=default@no-ip.com

    what am I doing wrong or how can this be solved ?

    Cheers,
    multytenne

    The router I got from Perlico actually has the option of picking your own static IP, you set it as whatever you want and then nail up the connection so it doesn't get taken!

    I wouldn't pay people for a static IP address, from memory Smart wanted 5 Euro a month!
