We all took part in some of these I'm sure. Anyway one I can remember is 5th class and the teacher picked us to do Cinderella IN IRISH! She read out the names of the people who would be taking part. Everyone laughed out loud when my best friend Martin was told to play Cinderella (especially me, I was the loudest laughing and banging my hand off the table). That was my mistake for it was announced that, "Oh Ruairi, you and John are to play the ugly sisters!"

I vaguely remember doing Oliver, Oklahoma and some wird thing with Cuchulainn and St. Patrick. I had a dog outfir for that one.
The memories of them all kinda run into each other so I can recall singing 'consider yourself one of us' in a cowboy outfit, and Whip crack away in my my Oisin's hound outfit.
Maybe tho there was too much drinkin in the intervening years.........

lol we did Grease, twas a good laugh, but it seemed to destroy the movie for me....the music just reminds me of hours upon hours of horridly repetitive rehersal!!

Was just talking about this kind of thing in work this morning - boys playing girls roles and vice versa. One colleague recalled her drama teacher asking all the "boys with female parts" to come to the front of the hall during a rehearsal :D Not one of them could stand up for giggling!

Robinson Crusoe I was a savage and also the wind !!!

As in when the ship got wrecked at sea I had to make a wind noise.

I hated every minute of it :o

I always got the crappy background roles, mainly because I hated Speech & Drama class which we had to do once a week. I was an angel in the nativity play, a carol singer the following year. We did a play called Muck Up At Murder Mansion in 6th class and I was the MC, which meant I introduced the play (2 lines) at the start, and that was it.

We never really done too many plays in National school. For some reason the teachers always said it was too much trouble.

we did, however, do a play in 1st or 2nd class (i can't remember which) of the Navity scene. I was playing the part of a shepard. I had to do nothing except stand there, and look stupid. Wasn't difficult then :D

we did Alice in Wonderland too. I was a bumblebee. Black leotard and bright yellow ribbon and duct tape wrapped around me to make me more "bee like".

i used to love the Nativity plays - always managed to be an angel. My tinfoil covered angel wings were quite a hit from 1st to 4th class.

Yeah same here... played background along with the other 40+ people in my class in some Christmas play in junior infants and that was the last we heard of anything play-related.
We weren't really old enough to do anything more complicated than that.

Anyone else have to do that 'little donkey' song? ... we must have practiced it a million times because that's the only song I can remember from the few school plays we did.
