    Hi,

    I recently bough a linksys wireless router wich doubles as an ata. However I didnt realise that it was locked to 1 voip company (Vonage)

    Is there anyway of unlocking this so i can put in another provider like voipstunt etc.

    Would putting different firmware on it help???

    thanks

    mike

    Yea, it should do. Have a look at http://www.dd-wrt.com, they might have a version that would work on your router. You'll probably need to have a google to find out the best way to actually get it on to the router as it might be protected.

    Not too sure about the whole ATA thing with dd-wrt, but there are lots of different firmwares out there.

    /edit: i've had a flick around my dd-wrt config pages and it doesn't seem to mention it, so unfortunately it might not be an option

    Hey thanks for the reply!

    I downloaded this software that goes and changes the sip settings.

    however i am afraid that if it doesnt work it could break my whole router. Or would it just break the voip part of it.

    when i got to the router homepage and click on voip, it says ur service provider has restricted this -call them for more info.

    do u think i cud break my router by running this software ( CYT-Unlocker - Local network version v3.9c.
    )
    from dslreports.com

    thanks

    I doubt it, its more likely you will not be able to get DDWRT onto it in the first place as firmware upgrades are also probably locked.
