Unfortunately not a great result for SBG.
Owen, Phillip,Clive,Tom, Nerijus,Cristian and myself beaten in the first round.
Shane progressed to next round but no further.
John faced Pedro Bessa in the final,a great and exciting match but Pedro took the gold.
The absoluto was redemption time, and those fit to compete gave it a 2nd shot.
Clive did best, beaten in the 3rd place play off by Pedro Bessa.

It was a great tournament, ran very smoothly ( not a jibe towards colm:D ) and great experience, especially for Phillip who at 16 was the only real novice that i could see in his division.
Well worth going over for and am looking forward to the National Championships in June now.

really good comp, highest level i've seen so far - each division with a couple of blackbelts in it

well done to all the guys that came with me, least you were 'honest' about what division you entered! was entertaining looking at the 'novice' division lol

pedro was top guy, one of the few respectful, humble brasilian guys there on the day. was a pleasure to compete against him and was happy enough with how i did against a world class guy.

liam i told pedro i was going to come down to his seminar....forgot the mma league was on same day and i'll be at that! can you let him know thanks

no worries andrew, at this stage i'm well used to irish people not supporting their own lol :)

ran very smoothly ( not a jibe towards colm )

Why would that be a jibe at me? Jim runs the comp on the day? I'm more of a producer than director.

thanks liam, looks like a few of us will be heading to his workshop on the monday night :)

Not my fault that the competitors in colms competitions like draws so much :).

    Highlights of the day.

    1. Clive being momentarily ahead of Pedro Bessa on points and contemplating stalling for 5 minutes and 55 seconds.

    2. I threw some dude.

    3. Eating after the weigh in, I know Eoghan enjoyed this aswell.

    4. One of the absoluto matches going to a draw and me being laughed at for suggesting rock paper scissors. If only they knew.

Good comp. Really enjoyed it. The only shame in this is that it was knockout which is really crap if you're in the division with Pedro and John steam rolling to the final. I much prefer the round robin system.

I didn't mind the points too much but there was some stalling and the refs were very soft on passivity.

    Shane, The
    - got a nice hoodie though

Ha ha, sorry John... Had to support Pedro, otherwise he might bring over a blue gi, instead of the white one i asked for!!!

Well done to all the Irish lads who competed, hopefully this year we will get some of the lazy bastardos in Cork to enter a few comps at home and abroad

I'd recommend Pedro's seminars to anyone who can make it, very technical and is mad for rolling with everyone

Enjoyed the fights john and very well done!!
might sound like a stupi question but was there any bad blood
between yourself and ferriera before the fight, because he
seriously seemed p***ed off after it!!
Or was it maybe he just doesnt handle defeat to graciously??
