The third 12 from the O Liffey Family aka 2004 ITF World Scratch Champion DJ Flip and production partner Freezemaster Slick sees the pair hook up with a posse of mcs from New York to Cali including former Juice crew MC Craig G, ex Rawkus cats Punch and Words, Cali’s Buckle Brothers- Mondo and DJ Ray - plus fellow Left Coaster Grip Grand of Look Records. A double sided 12 with Grip Grand who has been bubbling on the Cali underground scene for a minute on “Penny for my Thawts” plus posse cut “Rock the Spot” with remixes from the Buckles Bros DJ Ray plus All City label mates Heralds of Change

As a pre teen DJ Flip got his first taste of the shiny world of vinyl via Clondakin’s Wild Style Records. Run by Dublin B-Boy DJ Laz-e, his afternoons were often livened up by the arrival of the young Flip and his beleaguered Mum in search of the latest hardcore gabba 12 inches. A clever kid, It didn’t take long before he grew tired of dance music’s creative limitations (once he’d hit thirteen) and he immersed himself in the wide world of hip-hop by the mid 90s, just in time to catch the fresh air of the rising and exciting indie hip hop boom. With an innate love of vinyl and the shrewdness of a seasoned digger, he rang up some gargantuan phone bills trying out the phone numbers hidden inside the latest white label hip hop 12. Being indie labels, the contact numbers the number would lead, as often as not, to some mid West emcee’s Moms house! Much ill communication with players at every level of the hip-hop business – from big dogs Tim Westwood and Max Glazer to local pirate radio enthusiasts, Dublin’s Abbey Discs record shop, London’s Mr Bongos and NY’s Fat Beats on the way - led to him putting up Foreign Legion for a holiday come tour of Ireland in the Christmas of 1999, where he cemented his friendship with the Cali trio.

His hustling skills led to him kidnapping Craig G, Punch and Words of the Lyricist Lounge when they visited Dublin in September and whisking them off to a local studio to lay down vocals for “Rock the Spot”. Added in to the mix for this track is the Buckle Bros Mondo who steals the show. Remixes come courtesy of Mondo’s real life brother DJ Ray plus the Heralds of Change.

Northern Cali emcee Grip Grand has recently hooked up with DJ Designs Look records stable. His soulful voice and natural ability for timing and phrasing not to mention his own beat making skills have garnered him much praise. His recent 12 “Poppin Pockets” featured AG and he continues in a similar vein bemoaning his broke state here

O Liffey Family EP featuring Craig G, Buckle Bros, Punch and Wordsworth, Grip Grand is out on All City Thursday Feb 23rd
