Would you guys be willing to invest in some radios for skirmishing? I have two for snowboarding but not many people use them so I dont see the point in using them.

would definitely love to get radios, and throat mic's too if they're any use, or just a headset. it's on my list of stuff to get, probably by the end of the summer

I have 4 Motorola Talkabouts that can take throatmics. Pack of two in Maplin that includes battery's and a base charger for 99.99 Euro.

They've actually dropped to 89 but you need adaptors to use headsets or throat mics because they use single jack connections now, not twin pin.

    (I work there)

Does your place sell the adaptors?

    staff or bulk discounts??

im sure there's enough people on here to buy a whole bunch of them, maybe if a group of people get together we could get a load of radios/mics together?

Ebay and you should be able to get the headsets/mics made to fit without being adpated.

As long as the radios you buy are PMR446 then they will all talk to ech other. The motorola's are the best though but the 1 pin adudio in/out is crap alright.

i've been thinking about throat mics myself lately, would be handy for predator, main benefit would be the ear piece, no chance of the radio making a sh!t load of noise at the wrong time:eek: . i'm up for getting one if there'll be a few others getting one too

They sound nice in theory, but I'm not convinced of their usefulness in practice. Maybe it's just because I haven't seen a full team using them and with good leadership.

today i was a marshall in the 2007 intervarsities, so i had to lie in the field and make sure people didn't cheat (got burnt a bit!!) anyway some of the marshalls were given walkie-talkies, some had headsets some had nothing and mine had one of those bits you clip to your shoulder and press to talk, anyway we had fun on them, we evne started making bets about what UL would do next (they were laughable) any way they made those 9 ish hours bearable, so if you are doing some tourney get the marshalls these!!

Indoors at HRTA they'll be pointless unless you have throatmics and are set to VOX. But outdoors they're very handy. I really want to get back to Pred to use mine. At the longer ranges there they'd have much greater application.

I'd love to assemble a team of people, train properly and get some mics. It would be absolutely amazing at Predator. Should probably try and sort something like that out. We'd be unstoppable

We have 2 Cheap reaios frrom Argos! They are grand for EURO20 for the pair (On sale: 50% Off :) ) We then got Single Pin Throat mics from ebay but the pins and sockets are different (More sections on one we think) and so they dont work!!!
I agree using PTT is to time-consuming, you really need vox and a headset to use them well.

20 euro for a couple of radios? Are they actually usable at all?

Sound quality on the cheap radios is generally very poor and get worse when you use a headset.

VOX is over rated what you want is the PTT on you palm or gun. When you in close quaters (ambush etc) somtime you just want to be hit the PTT to create clicks on the radio to alert the others. Less verbal prompting you do the better so they dont know what your doing.
