Apart from the normal play games and blue ray etc , has anyone found any cool little features that others might find usefull . Or just tips in general

Ill start off if you have an external USB Harddrive you can just plug it in and hey presto 300gb playstation that you can play all your video's music etc from .

For converting your vids use PS3video9 which is free to download .

Good thing about it being nice and heavy is you can whack any burglars over the head with it.

To make them play on the PS3, turn divxs to whatever format is supported

It's like another heater in the room. After a few hours of play the temperature in the room rises 1 - 2 degrees (also the same for the 360). This is great in the winter but a pain when the weather is good like today.

You have too much time ;):):) It takes an age to convert a files, your almost quicker compressing a dvd yourself.

Now I don't own one but presumeably you can open it up and swap the 60GB with a bigger drive?

For video content I was originally perplexed as to why it wouldn't show any preview of the clip (sort of like viewing a thumbnail icon in XP) and just had a default icon placeholder.

However just discovered this week that when the clip is playing you can select "Create Icon" from the overlay menu. This will pause the video at any particular point, allowing you to create a 15 second preview which plays continually in the XMB when browsing Video. Thought it was a nice touch that's not immediately obvious when you're used to such visual candy being auto-created.

Yes you can. Sony have made this rather easy to do.

probably a silly question but does upgrading the hard drive invalidate your warranty?

No it easily accessible and instructions on how to remove it are in the manual.

Apparently if you mess it up, it's on your head.
    I have seen cases of:

    People using wrong screw drivers

People putting in a HDD that's too fast for the console and over heats.

And Sony have charged these people for a repair, so be careful, if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it.I was thinking on picking up a 160Gb 5400rpm drive from Komplette, but to be honest right now I can't see myself using 60GB.

I have used that to convert a few mpegs, avi, and vob files - it does take an age (admittedly i dont have a top spec pc), then i drag onto a usb key , which takes an age again and then put them onto ps3 - i must say the quality isnt great (32" lcd) and prob would be happier burning them straight onto a dvd and playing them from that - quality seems much better

So PS3Video9 converts all video formats to MP4?
That could come in handy for putting more movies on my phone.
And filling my PS3 with South Park episodes:D
