I got the camera half an hour before I went into work this morning. No duties or taxes, and it came with a ton of freebies.

The spot metering function is savage and makes a world of difference with macro photos and the IS lens is no less savage. The focus ring is a little loose, but eh, I've owned worse. Charger was for US, so I'm a little screwed there.

    Photos tonight.

    Congrats!

Can you get a converter in Currys?

I've no idea what kind of camera you got but most of them these days come with chargers that take both 110v and 220v current so you'll probably just have to replace the plug.
The one on my nikon took a standard figure-8 radio plug so I just swapped it with one I had knocking about the house.

Brilliant. The charger should be universal. They work in the US and here.

Yes they do work in both USA & Europe (50/60 Hz & 110-240v auto switching) but if the plug has US style 2 pins then you are shafted!!

Like I said - you can just replace the plug. Even if its not a standard radio plug type you can just cut off the 2 ping US plug and wire in a 3-pin Irish/UK one.

The pins actually flip out from the body of the charger, which means it won't fit a travel adaptor. It's not a huge thing - I'm moving to the US in five weeks and I'll have my grip next week, so I can just load the magazine with AA batteries.

if you get a shaver adapter it should work. Only rated for 1A but in most cases chargers don't use that much. You can always "upgrade" the fuse if needed, but then mark it as such so it's not used as shaving adapter

Get your US/UK (incl Ireland) converter here:

    Very quick service.

Had the same bitch of a problem when I got my 'Rebel Xti', just leg it to Argos, they have one for like a fiver, or tenner, can't remember, but it works a treat!

Good luck with the new camera! Remember to get it insured! Nearly had my camera driven over (was in the top of my bag with my ipod and a van drove over the bottom, crushing a medium format and 35 mm) about a month after I bought it. Sorting the insurance tommorrow!

I'll insure it when I'm in the US, there's honestly little point now in doing it here.

Spent an hour shooting in a nightclub in Galway. I used the 17-85mm most of the night, as I wanted some movement in photos. I swapped over to the 50mm right at the end as my arm was numb, but it was too close for a lot of work, I'll probably go with thw 17-85 and 28mm tomorrow.
