I've been perusing this board and noticed that CQC is being described as something much akin to a style. As far as I was aware, CQC isn't a style in anyway at all, more a concept.. As I'm doing some research into this stuff at the moment, if anyone could enlighten me, that would be great...

If you're referring to Close Quarter Combat, you're out of luck. You probably saw this from Metal Gear Solid 3, and wanted to learn. Unfortunately, this isn't a real martial art.

Although, the moves implented were from other martial arts such as Krav Maga, Judo, etc.

    Good Luck;)

EDIT: I was wrong. That style from metal gear solid 3 is fake, but there are styles of Close Quarter Combat. I dunno in Ireland, so the closest thing i'd recommend would either be Wing Chun or Krav Maga

I dont think he is looking, but rather stating that cqc aint a style, but a concept..
probably better to say, there are differant styles of cqc that incorporate similar(?) combative concepts..

After searching around I've heard of CQC, CQB, CC etc. etc.

    Are they all the same?

Close Quarters Combat, or CQC, was originally used to describe an up-close military hand-to-hand fighting system, also known as combatives.
Im far from an expert, but CQC seems to be a blanket term, like rbsd(relaity based street defence) these days, in non military training for the likes of krav maga and combatives.

are they all the same? nope, but at a guess id say that the underlying concepts and training are.

    Hi guys.

Thanks for all the replies. It's appears that it's as I thought. CQC seems to be an umbrella term that covers many different systems, as opposed to being a sprecfic 'style' as such.

this is like someone saying MMA isn't a style but a training concept based on mixing different styles. fair enough, interesting to think about maybe but doesn't make much difference at the end of the day.

I did alot of training in CQC, Combatives, and mainly Krav Maga (back up with many years kickboxing and now muay thai)....

I am not sure what it is...

But I do know this for a fact...

I sure helped me kick the crap out more than once out of people who attacked me/tried to rob me/or start fights with me that I could not walk away from.

So I am happy enough with that!

its like turning on a light switch to light the room...you do not have to know the theory and development of electricity and how it works, in order to flick the light switch on! LOL!!! :D
