Once it actually loads a bit quicker than boards I'll click on a link that contains "Deviant" and "Art" in the url. While there may be some fantastic stuff there I think it's pretty painful to navigate.
And before anyone pipes up, I'm on a 10Gb line here.

I have been using it for about a year and find it a lot more reliable & faster than boards and thats Not on a 10gb line.

I also find the interface a lot more intuitive than flickr - though I spose if your used to one and then try the other your bound to find the one your less familiar with to be less intuitive/more badly designed. It just depends on whatever one you are more familiar with using imo.

DeviantArt's performance is vastly superior to Boards. And I agree, flickr has a nightmarish interface, I can rarely stay for more than a few minutes.

    Link in sig.

Being on a 1GB line, I find it loads perfectly fine. I also like the way to navigate DeviantArt. But in fairness I guess when they were designing the site I reckon that they did aim for a slightly lower age range demographic. However, I can understand how it can be hard to navigate when you haven't used the site regularly.

My bad, it's 1Gb to the net, capped at 240Mb.
Anyway Devaint art is slow :)

Not such a fan of DeviantArt, I must say and I suspect a lot of that is linked to the fact that I'm working a slightly different audience. I found its uploading proc to be very clunky and user unfriendly - I couldn't upload stuff without going through menu after menu to decide how to classify the work of art. I gave up.

I realise that Flickr may not concentrate so much on the art side of things in the way that DA does, but in that way, it's gloriously non-elite. I put up a stream of photographs during the week that can't be easily classified between Art, Sports, Reportage, Snapshot. DA wouldn't allow me to do that too easily and given the grief I rememebr trying to get even one photograph online, I really came to the conclusion that it wasn't for me. I like some features about it, like the blog-diary side of things, the integrated printing service and various bits like that. But the primary function in terms of hosting and uploading work just left me very cold.

I don't really want to get into a Flickr vs DeviantArt debate because I think they work towards different markets, different genres, and Flickr isn't perfect (lack of integrated print service outside the US grinds on my nerves) but on the key things which I need which is easy and simple access to a lot of other people, easy uploading and not too regimented, it wins over DA hands down for me.

But I realise that other people have different views and different needs which do not match my own so...

:D DO you mean portrait orientation or portraits of people? I don't normally do people, but I think I have a few. I'll see if I can fire some up here and in my gallery.

EDIT: Ok, there's a couple of portraits in. One a bit abstract and the other is more arty with a bit of photoshop thrown in.
