powerbook g4, bought in Jan 2004, used daily mostly for browsing and word processing. occasional games (MacSwear!) ... mostly lightweight stuff.

i get about 2 hrs battery life these days ... can't help but think this has dropped in recent months. it's the original battery, and really doesn't owe me anything at this stage

does 2 hrs sound reasonable, or should I be expecting a little more ? i know it's not an exact science ...

any recommendations for best prices on replacement batteries ?

2 hours sounds reasonable to me, for a 3 year old battery. I got my iBook in December 2004 and last summer it would only hold about 45 minutes of charge.

If you have 10.4, download Coconut Battery to check it's health. A lot of batteries start to lose their charge after a year and a half, 2 years.

Try ebay, but be sure to examine feedback before buying anything. Here's a guide to buying batteries on ebay.

thanks dude ... that coconut tool is quite useful, and now comes in widget flavour :D

think i'll stick with my current battery, and stay away from ebay altogether ... you can still get new batteries for 12in powerbooks on the Apple store, prices seem reasonable enough to me.
