A mate of mine was playing in the Main Event and in one hand when it was down to him and one other, the other player checked on the river and my mate sees check. He waits for other player to show cards which he doesnt. Mate asks deler does the the original checker not have to show first, and she said no so my mate thre over his cards, won the pot and the other guy mucked. Surely this is wrong???

AFAIK, if its checked on the river, the player to the left of the dealer should turn over his cards, but i wouldnt slowroll if i had a big hand and he wasnt showing

If your friend was insisting on waiting for the other guy to show then (even though I don't agree with waiting) he was right since a showdown should happen in order from the button, and since your mate was last to act in the hand he would be last to showdown under this rule.

Did your mate think this was unfair as he didn't get to see his opponents cards? If his opponent had shown first was your mate going to show his cards anyways, or take the same opportunity to muck them?

Is it not the player who has acted first??

Which would of course have been the first to act.. Doh!

Yes as he only had bottom pair and his opponent had a made a big turn bet, my mate had a flush draw also so called. He wanted naturally to see what he was up against.

Not sure to be honest, he probably would have but he was confused with the ruling especially as another player at the table, a well known UK pro agreed with the dealer.

Is it not a "Showdown" after the check, check on the river, so mandatory for both players to turn over their cards? Yes I understand that in situations a guy mucks knowing his holding is beating, but if the other player wants to see isn't he intitled to?
