    Okay, a bit late with this one because of all the licence fee stuff, but the 2007 capital grants were announced a few days back. Only one gun club in there, the Bishop's Mountain shooting club in Kilkenny. Nothing for any of the associations or other clubs :(

    From the DoAST webpage:
    The national lottery-funded Sports Capital Programme, which is advertised on an annual basis, allocates funding to projects that are directly related to the provision of sports facilities and are of a capital nature. This means that the project must involve:

    * improving or building an asset; or
    * buying sports equipment that is securely stored and will be used for at least five years.

    Funding can be allocated to the following organisations under the programme:

    * voluntary and community organisations, including sports clubs;
    * national governing bodies of sport and third level education institutions, where it is evident that the proposed facility will contribute to the regional and/or national sporting infrastructure; and
    * in certain circumstances, schools, colleges and local authorities (see the Guidelines, Terms and Conditions to the 2007 Programme for more information)

    The 2007 Sports Capital Programme was advertised in the national press on Sunday 15th and Monday 16th October 2006. The deadline for receipt of applications was 5pm on Friday 24th November 2006.

    A total of 1,533 applications were received by this deadline and were assessed in accordance with the Guidelines, Terms and Conditions of the Programme. Following completion of the assessment process, provisional grant allocations were announced on 5th April 2007.

    A total of 935 individual projects were allocated provisional grant funding worth €85 million. A full list of the 2007 grants provisionally allocated can be viewed at the link below:

    View the list of grants awarded in 2007

    We will inform all applicants by letter of the outcome of their application as soon as possible.

    In keeping with Government policy, the allocations once again reflect special priority for the development of sports and physical recreation facilities in areas designated as disadvantaged i.e. RAPID, CLÁR and Local Drugs Task Force areas. Projects allocated sports capital funding in designated disadvantaged areas may also receive additional top-up funding under the CLÁR and RAPID Programmes, which are administered by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

    No decision has yet been made regarding the announcement of the 2008 Sports Capital Programme.

    The time to start thinking about the 2008 applications folks, is now!

    €53 million awarded in 2006, I don't have the figures for the numbers of applicants in 2006, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't more than 2007 seeing as 2007 was rushed out two months ahead of the normal deadline, so that this weeks announcement would be made now instead of June as is the norm.

    Election very, very close now lads.
