usb to ide

Hi all. was wondering if any of you ever bought a usb to ide cable on ebay/amazon etc and was wondering what your experience of this is as i was thinking of doing the same. was looking ot backup important files of an old PC.

I bought one before, didnt work at all. Your best bet is to pick one up from somewhere you can trust.

I bought one from Maplin a few weeks ago called Easy Ide. I was able to read a hard disk from an old Laptop but only on a Win 98 PC. It wouldn't read on Win XP or Vista. Another even older MAxtor disk wouldn't read at all.

Just a thought. . try connecting the power cable to the back of the pc first. when the hard drive makes noise then plug in the ide end and then the usb end.
