Do you know of any large car collections, say someone who has 50 corollas in his garden or maybe someone who just holds onto one particular make of car?
The person need not necessarily be a collector but just have them for the sake of having them. I saw in France a lot of this such as a yard full of Peugeot 404s. There is a famous farm in Pennysilvania which has 200 Edsels...........There is also a farm near me that has I3 Volkswagen Golfs...

I have 46 cars at the moment, classic and modern, but I've had as many as 80 or 90 on occasions.

On my uncle's farm, he only has two cars at the moment, one's a '88 Citroen BX Estate that has been sitting beside a shed since 1999, and the other is a gutted Vauxhall Victor Estate which has been sitting at the corner of a field since God knows how long. It's competely rotted. There is however the possibilty of a 'new' member to the collection soon, a '93 Vauxhall Astra Estate (yes, we do like estate cars in our family)!

There is another farm near my uncle's that has much more cars in it, some being a Astra Mk1, two Ford Escort Mk3, Renault 18, and a few others that I couldn't make out through the hedge.

Theres a guy on the road between Greystones and Kilcoole, in Wickla, who has a large assortment, mostly moggies. He has trimmed back a bit over the years tho. Its difficult to get a good look at whats exactly there because the field is on a hill, the road somewhat below. Going to and from school upstairs on the 84 afforded me the best vantage point :D .
He's just opposite Rodney Evans motors if you know the area.

I've twice visited the home of a very good friend of my fathers in Sutton, Dublin which houses the most mouth watering collection of classics. The owner (and his brother) are fairly well known in Classic car circles and are very involved in racing an MGB V8. His daughter races a Mini Cooper and I think his son is into classic Porsche's. I don't think he would like to be named here so I will leave that bit out.
Briefly the collection is mostly 60's and 70' sports cars although he also has 3 or 4 very old motors, a Darraq I think, with the drivers compartment open to the weather and the passengers reclining in button velvet luxury in the back. He also had 2 model T Fords. 1920's ish.
The first time I visited about 7 years ago he had a thing for Jensen Interceptors and had 5 of them! an immaculate FF as his daily car, 2 others in reasonable condition a mk3 for restoration and another FF which was not much better than scrap!
    Others included,
2 E type roadsters, an early flat floor in white and a late model v12 (cant remember the colour)
A concours XK 150 in black (absolutely stunning)
An Aston Martin DB 5 in petrol blue and in excellent condition
A Green MGC 3 litre roadster (immaculate)
A red Mustang Convertible with a white interior and roof.
A gold Rolls silver Dawn (I think) from about 1955 that he said he was always being pestered by friends to use for their kids weddings!
These were all in a huge detached garage on the grounds and he had the racing MGB V8 (which sounded amazing) the Racing Cooper, a lotus 7 (or Caterham not sure which) and a white Californian import 73 Porsche 911
in a smaller garage attached to the house.
My head was spinning by this stage and my 67 MGB roadster which I had at the time, and had arrived in, was starting to look a bit lame. My dads friend was an absolute gentleman however and even drove my MGB to help ascertain the cause of a drive line clunk which he correctly diagnosed as the uj's.
I know this probably all sounds at bit suspect or like another Roscommon inheritance story, but I promise the facts are true and I am not prone to exaggeration.
I was asked around again with my late father about 2 years ago and obviously jumped at the chance. The collection was much the same although he was down to 2 Jensens and was driving a Rolls Corniche convertible as his daily driver along with a modern Merc S class.
The other big change was that he had sold the XK 150 (as he said it was too good to use) and replaced it with a navy blue fastback Shelby Mustang 500which he said was an original Shelby. I believe him.
Sorry about the long post but I've been obsessed with classic cars for over 30years (I'm 42) and I hope I've found an audience who might appreciate this story. Some people would just shrug their shoulders and think, so what, its just a load of old cars.
    But what cars:)

Wow hifive, thats quite a collection, and you're most welcome here, and im sure you've got a captive audience..
I love the sound of the Darracq, where the passenger is cocooned in luxury, while 'his man' is exposed to the oil and elements :D

The Edsel yard I mentioned in America has since may 2006 been sold and all the Edsels (200 of them) are in the process of being sold off so it is a way of preservation even if the cars were left out in the open.
