    Hello..can someone pls help

One of my PC's started acting up on me :?
    So...wouldnt turn on or anything.

I opened it up, cleaned it out, put the ram in and out, cleaned the fans, fixed all the cables n stuff

    Reinstalled Windows XP..

But when it goes to the 2nd loading screen...it comes up with a windows error message

    lsass.exe
    "invalid parameter something or other"

So reinstalled windows again...same thing happens

Looked on the net, yet cant find a decent solution...helllp

Can you give some more details on your specs?

It sounds like a memory problem so if you have two sticks try installing with one stick and try with the other stick if it fails. You could also try running memcheck86 first.

    Amd 64 3700+
    1 gig ram ( 2 x 512)
    300 gig HDD
    Nvidia 6800 GS

If you need the specific details for a component i can find out

But when i get home i will try the memory thing

Though...when the PC boots..the diagnostics at the start show that there is 2 stick and they add up to 1 gig (that black screen with all the info )

seems like either you have a faulty cd or something like that.
to be sure do a low level format of the hard drive (if you have not data on it you don't want as it will restore it to factory settings.)

then try re-installing windows xp using the full format option when it asks about drive details (don't use quick format)

once re-installed and you get the same problem i would guess that you have a faulty cd and you'll need to get a new one.

i think the error is: an invalid paramater was passed to a service or function
i have researched it and there is no fix with it, its not a memory issue it looks like its more a media issue.

i would still suggest low level format and find a new install cd

format and low level format are different.

low level format resets the disk to factory default (writes all the 1's to 0's)

a standard format just flags sectors for availability to be written over

Is there a detailed walkthrough to a low level format...and is there anything else id need bar the windows XP CD ~(which someone thinks may be banjoed) :p

    Btw..all help is really appreciated

Thanks for takin the time to reply ;)

if you think just the cd is banjoed just try replacing the cd.

depending on the make/model of you hard drive you will need vendor specific software.
all i know is that if your drive is a maxtor you'll need maxblast

Run Memtest+ to check the RAM for errors leave it run for a few hours like 3-4.

You can use Imgburn to burn the bootable CD ISO

Copy errors and formatting problems are a common symptom of defective RAM though of course it could still be something else.
