Import duty clothes from the states

I want to buy some clothes online from the states. I've done it before and nothing has happened, but was warned about buying too much.

What is the duty charged to clothes imported this way?
And, is there any way round it like buying on a foreign Credit Card?

Duty can be from 2.5% to 8% depending on the item. This is applied to the cost of the goods + the shipping cost. VAT at 21% is then applied to the total of goods + shipping + duty.

Unfortunately no way around it, though if its sent by USPS global priority it sometimes slips An Posts Revenue Commissioners net.
