Nervous and anxious - for no reason!!!

    Hello,

Over the past couple years I have noticed that I get days were I feel terribly nervous and anxious, for not apparent reason!

I would feel so uncomfortable and irritable from it that I cannot enjoy my life or the company of others. It comes and goes. It is not there all the time but when I am feeling like that I can't understand why it is.

Is this a common thing or am I going absolutely crazy?

    You are not going crazy.

For whatever reason, you are feeling uneasy without any logical reason. I am not a doctor or counsellor, but from a laymans point of view, it sounds like you are having mild anxiety attacks. Something in your present or past life is the source of it. See your GP or a good counsellor would be my advice. I used to get panic attacks years ago, so I can relate to your uncomfortable feelings.

    Good luck.

I get it a couple of days after I go on the piss. It happens every time about a day after my hangover (i.e. 2 days after). I learn to deal with it because I can expect it. Do you drink much/take drugs?

I don't drink alot and I certainly dont do drugs! I don't know what it is!

I must look out to see if it happens after a night out or whatever.

Events like this usually have a trigger. the trigger can be as simple as lack of sleep. try to identify the trigger by going through what u have been doing and how u have been feeling for the couple of days beforehand.
Usually also these feelings can be brought on by some aspect of your life being slightly out of control or something that is out of your hands yet u have to live with it. Also maybe something that u are struggling to understand that is important to u.

if u can identify the trigger and take control of it and understand the source of your feelings(others that u trust can help u with this) u can solve your problem.

Thanks for that! Perhaps you are right! I do have alot of unfinished business in life! I tend to ignore alot of things and put them on the long finger. Perhaps that is it!

Its just that when I am feeling that nervous, I don't know exactly why! Its like the morning of an interview when you are getting ready to go out!'

You poor sausage, sounds like good old common garden anxiety. Used to get attacks of it myself and you feel like you are going to die!! Thankfully no more!

    Have a look http://www.anxietypanic.com/

Obviously amateur diagnostics not reliable maybe go and have a chat to your GP about it and get to the root of it. Good luck:)

Yeah OP, sounds like you've an anxiety disorder - nothing to get alarmed about. It's far more common than you think and it's highly treatable. Pay your GP a visit.

Thanks, I am reluctant to go to a GP as the thought of discussing anything like this is humiliating. I believe I could be depressed. Can anxiety and nervousness be a symptom of depression?

I am not asking for a diagnosis (spelling?) but from your own experiences?'

Op - it really does sound like an anxiety disorder. It is really common so you should not feel humiliated talking to your doctor.

In answer to your question - an anxiety disorder and depression can be interrelated and occur at the same time but they can also occur seperately. Only a doctor can say for sure which it is so you should make an appointment and go. Whether it is an anxiety disorder, depression or something else - your doctor is the best person to advise you.

Have you any idea what a doctor sees through the course of their career? This is a big thing for you, but it's absolutely nothing to them and they are there to help you not make you feel worse about yourself.
Find yourself a good doctor, explain what's going on with you and get yourself some help.
Do you not think you deserve that much?
I am not asking for a diagnosis (spelling?) but from your own experiences?'

Others experiences are not much help to you though if you have not had a professional tell you what you have or have not got. It certainly won't help you sort yourself out in any great way, you need to see a professional for that.
Go see a doctor and get yourself the help you need and deserve.

I've never suffered from depression thank God so no, the two can be entirely exclusive of one another. As Beruthiel said, a doctor sees ALL SORTS on a daily basis and no matter how kindly meant, advice here is not going to do you any good. Go and have a chat with your doctor and they will be able to diagnose properly.

Those natural herbal tablets Kalms are good for a short while and you can get them in all chemists but as other posters have pointed out the trick is to identify the source of the anxiety.

OP, I don't mean to be harsh but there's still - ridiculously in this day and age - a stigma attached to mental illness and with an attitude like that, you're only contributing to that stigma. You have absolutely nothing - nada - to be humiliated about. You really do need to discuss this with someone. I'm not saying it's serious, but - like any condition - if you leave it untreated, it could get worse.
I believe I could be depressed. Can anxiety and nervousness be a symptom of depression?

Yes it most certainly can be, but not always.

And do take on board the very good advice from the poster before me. Making dietary changes, increasing your exercise, getting a good amount of sleep, cutting out caffeine - these are all excellent for tackling the problem and will definitely produce positive results after a considerably short while. If you smoke, maybe you should consider giving up. Nicotine can make a person very anxious.

Everyone's right about anxiety disorder being so common....have had it years myself. In fact i was back with the doc again today with it. And you have nothing to be embarrassed about. But you need to go see someone soon. These things don't go away on their own, it may be such a simple thing for you or you might be right about depression. But try and face it now because trying to carry it like this can be hell.

    You'll be fine. Trust me.
