[REQ] Where is the best place to buy a Dyson?

I went into Arnotts last weekend to buy a Dyson. They had a sale on, and the Dysons were reduced by 15%. I thought the prices were quite good, but then I went into Argos, and even with the 15% "Sale" price, they were cheaper in Dixons.

Is Dixons the best place to go, or can anyone recommend a better place to buy?

    Thanks,
    Randomer

I was in Debenhams in Jervis street the other day and they had about 4 dysons left, but there were no prices on them and I was in a hurry so I just left.

It came with the special attachment for wooden floors and tiles which is very useful.

I think the five year guarantee only came into effect last summer, around august. Prior to that, it came with a two year guarantee.

Note the new model for the Animal is the DC19 Animal not DC08 Animal and the wrap models are great for storage. http://www.dyson.ie/range/range.asp?base=CYLINDER

We bought our dyson about 3 or 4 years ago. The wire going into the plug had become loose (due to being pulled every which way) and it had a tendency to cut out. Eventually, one day recently, during a particularly fast vacuuming, a huge spark came out of the plug, the connecting flex sheared/burned off and the whole unit appeared to have died. All attempts to fix it (admittedly consisting mostly of pushing, prodding and muttering vaguely) had failed, and as a last resort, we thought we might as well try to ring Dyson to see if it was worth fixing. We got through to Dyson Ireland, and an engineer came out to us a couple of days later. He looked at it, said "well, that shouldn't have happened", replaced the lead, did a few other magical things to it that made it work, and then left. There was absolutely no charge for this service. Needless to say we were pretty gobsmacked. If it ever does give up the ghost, I know what brand I will be buying again....:)

By the way, we rang the number on the bottom of the unit and there is also a serial number there too that identifies the unit. We had no receipt either!!

Harvey Normans had a promotion on Dysons last catalog:

    DC08ORIGIN €219
    DC08ANIMAL €329
    DC08BLITZIT €279

They have some kind of 13% off sale today not sure if that applies..

There is a foam filter in these units that needs to be cleaned regularly.

When the filter is blocked there is no suction.

The manual actually recommends washing it and letting it dry before putting it back in.

Might save you a bit of money.
