As above, I know a bit off topic but I know a lot of use them for live poker.

I want a set for online poker would you believe? I usually listen to music with my inear phones just plugged into my laptop as I play and sometimes my i-pod. I'm finding wearing them all day is a bit uncomfortable and they don't do much for background noise....kids screaming etc!!!

I'm looking for a set of noise cancelling ones.
    Models I've looked at are
Bose QC3 (would love em but cant bring myself to pay the price at €299
Sennheiser PXC 250 at € 150 but they have an external battery pack (not sure if I'd like this)
Sennheiser PXC 150 at €99 (more my price range)

Any of you have any of the above or any other recommendations?

    Many thanks,

    Mac

I think they have a new version out, they are a but smaller, so probably cheaper, I can't remember if they are QC2 or QC3. Pricey still though
A good set of DJ ear phones will keep alot of noise out and be cheaper.

Sennheiser HD-25s are the greatest pair of headphones I've ever owned (and I've owned a lot).
they are closed back headphones so they completely block out all external noise, while noone sitting beside you can hear a thing.
They're good for live poker because the left earpiece pivots to a ninety degree angle leaving one ear free and the other comfortably listening to music.
The sound quality is second to none.

In dublin you can get them in peats or tower for about 300 quid, but you can get them online from this crowd for 180 including shipping.

    p.s. don't get HD-25 SPs, they're rubbish.

Sony MDR EX90's do the job for me. I got a genuine pair in the SL version (shortened cable for use with remote control) off ebay for much less (They sell for between €100-120 retail in ireland ) than the 'phones are selling here. Additionally the SL's aren't available in the EU. If people want the place where i got them, PM me.

I'm using a Sennheiser hd 205 atm while I save up for a bose quiet comfort 3... :)

looks like them alright. I'm quite wary of ordering electrical audio equipment from ebay though, I 've had some bad experiences.

beyerdynamic studio headphones are dope homies.

though mine are too big a goofy looking to wear outdoors.

I use Sony MDR-EX71 inear ones. I'm a big fan of them. In the last year i've broken three sets of them though. Each time in the SE after a bad beat. (i have no recollection of actually doing anything destructive to them)

I use the Bose Around-Ear (AE) Headphones. Definately the best I've ever used. I think I paid something like £120 STG for them but that was last year.

While we're on the topic does anyone have a pair of high end floorstanding speakers for sale?
they need to be biwireable and handle at least 200 watts per channel.

EEEEEKKKKK!!! I'm scared to pay more than €20 for a pair!!! What happened to the trusty old walkman headphones with the ginormous fluffy bits over the speaker part???!!! And none of this I-Pod lark!!! Get in the old walkmen!!!

i bought a pair of in-ear headphones with a conical rubber end which cacelled out exterior noise perfectly. they were c $100 but worthwhile until i broke them..i am currently wearing my new ipod one s although since my early butter experience they are a little lopsided in that the right ear is louder..is there anything more annoying?id never buy the big ones..they look too goofy for outdoor use...

Totally agree with Joe on the big headphones. These are without a doubt the best ever earphones I've owned.

I left them on the plane a couple of weeks back though and never got them back :( . Well worth a look if you don't want the hassle of the big ear muff ones, even if you don't care what they look like they're just too big for everyday use. I like to be able to just wrap my headphones up and shove them in a jacket pocket, the noise cancelling over the head ones are too big for this. The foam tips you can attach to these in ear ones block out as much noise if not more than the sennheiser PXC 250's I used to own.

Even though I thought there was great sound off the sennheisers the wires were of really poor quality and after about 4months the plastic stuff encasing them started to crack and break in several spots and they were unusable after about 6 months. I wasn't too impressed considering I'd spent over €200 on them.

If you are buying these for use at a poker table surely you don't want headphones that cancel out all other sounds?

i've always assumed earphones to be in the "dont spend more than ten bucks" category.... this thread has opened my eyes.... or ears for that matter...

Any sennheiser, toughest thing I've known since my old nokia that used to happily twirl around several times before landing on the ground and surviving, time and time again, whilst I skated with it in my pocket. Much to my disbelief it kept on beating like a heart very much alive, ignoring the pain and drifting onwards...into PROFIT, YEAH BABY!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,201 ✭✭✭Macspower

opened my eyes and my wallet as well jeff... have a look at the site that i mentioned. These guys talk about headphones the way we talk about poker!! and they are talking in thousands

anyway so far very happy with my investment..... i'll give a better report after they get a few hours of wear

I like to wear earphones and switch the player off, that way I can hear all that is going around me whilst preserving my hearing for future use . I also like to keep a pair of shades handy in case the roof blows off the casino on a sunny day.
