Backdated blog

My bosses tell me I can put some of my work up on a blog, but it goes back a few months.

    a) What's a good blog site to choose to get plenty of readers, especially in Ireland? (Assuming anyone wants to read it, of course.)

    b) How do I backdate material, or do I have to put all the previous material on in a batch, then continue to add it? New to this.

Not sure what you mean by the best blog site - I assume you're planning on starting your own blog?

As for backdating, it's easy enough with Wordpress - you can edit the timestamp on each post and make a post just made have a date from whatever year/month/day.

    Thanks, flogen. What's Wordpress, though?

It's a type of software you can use for blogging.

Wordpress.org is where you can go to download the software (for free), which you can then use on your own website (if you have one).

If you don't you can go to wordpress.com, which will let you set up an account on their servers (like blogger.com does, but it uses the wordpress software).

It's popular because it's open source and you can mess around with the code to have it whatever way you want (if you have the know-how, that is) - it's pretty user friendly too and installing it on your own website is very easy, even if you haven't got the first clue about HTML or CSS (which largely includes my good self!)

I'll give it a try - thank you. How do you find the date stamp, please? (I'm level with your good self in knowledge of HTML, etc.)

Its one of the fields in the right hand side boxes when you are editing a new entry. Expand the "Post Timestamp" box, check the "Edit Timestamp" box and enter the date you want it to appear as posted on.

Thanks, this is great. I'll get to it next week, as this week is going to be heavy duty, man.

Hm. I got a blog set up ok, on blogspot, but I can't quite see how to apply Wordpress to it...?

Having downloaded the app, I opened the Readme, and it said:

Open up wp-config-sample.php with a text editor like WordPad or similar and fill in your database connection details.

I know every word in this is in English, but the sentence doesn't actually make any sense. It's like having Alzheimer's, the sense of strangeness and dissassociation. Qfwghblqnnggn?

Luckcat, do you have friends in web development or IT who can assist you?
You are mixing up two systems here, Blogger and Wordpress don't mix.

You need to upload wordpress to a server (apache, php, mysql) and then install it in a similar way to installing a .exe on your PC.

If you want to use a system like blogger then go to wordpress.com and sign up. Wordpress has two forms of blogging, hosted and non-hosted.

Ach, it's ok, found how to do it. There's a button to change the posting time on Blogspot. Thanks for all the help, lads.
