I bought a zen v two months ago and already it has managed to break. Unfortunately I had thrown out the box at this stage. I brought it back to the shop with all the stuff that came with it and the reciept, but they told me they couldn't do anything without the original packaging. They said they deal with creative directly and that they cant do anything until I get the box. Does anyone know if thats true or even legal. It doesn't seem right that your warranty would become void just because you dont have a cardboard box.

That's bull**** under the sale of goods act 1980 it’s up to the seller to replace, repair, or refund faulty goods. It’s not up to you to contact creative. I would look for a manager mention the sale of goods act; small claims court etc, and see what the reaction is. Having the box is irreverent. However to speed things up you can contact creative on there website and they will give you details on how to return the faulty item. But if it was me I would make the shop do it.

I work for a computer retailer which sells Creative hardware and I agree 100% with mobby. Not having the box has no effect on your warranty whatsoever and your contract is with the retailer - you do NOT have to contact the manufacturer to sort the problem out, THEY do.

I had trouble with my creative zen shorlty after I bought it. Actually I cracked the screen! I bought mine in Singapore so naturally I couldn't bring it back to the shop. I contacted creative and after a few emails they agreed to replace it. They picked it up from my house so it didn't cost me anything. However I recently dropped it again and they weren't so sympathetic!! It took a lot of persuading and tormenting until they finally rang and agreed to replace it. I think they try to route all of thier complaints to email because its easier to refuse people a replacement. If you do have trouble keep pestering them until they call you. Then drop some bull**** about bad P.R. It worked for me!!!!
