does have a definitive answer on the above?
ie, you tried it yourself and it worked/didnt worked.

im considering buying a load of gamecube games that i got rid of a while back and want to know if i need to buy wavebirds first.

Short answer: No, they don't work.

For Gamecube games on the Wii you'll need a Gamecube controller and a Gamecube memory card. People have had trouble with third-party stuff so picking up official merchandise is worth the effort.

Will the GameCube controller work as a classic controller though? I read somewhere it will.

Don't buy the Gamecube controller in Game. It doesn't work with VC games.
I've ordered a wavebird from Play-Asia. it's taking quite some time to be delivered though..

Good choice. The Wavebird simply rocks.

Anyone any idea if HMV sell GC controllers? And if they do, are they any good? Heard in a few places now that the GAME GC controllers have issues with VC...

The only place I have seen any is GAME, and as I mentioned above, it doesn't work in VC. Buy online.. The Wavebird I bought on Play Asia is the best controller I have owned..

Cheers Krusty... So the word is that Wavebirds are the way to go, judging by people's posts here.

My folks are actually in the States at the moment and looking for a present to get me... Would a pair of Wavebird controllers from the states work here? I can't see any reason why they wouldn't, but does anyone know for certain?

They work just fine. I have a platinum one from the states with no issues and theyre much cheaper there too.

Yep. My Wavebird was destined for the Asian market..
They'll have a job finding some though.. Some of my friends have looked..

Strangely enough, I just got off the phone to them. My Da put me onto the sales guy at Target... He didn't have a clue what I was talking about: "Uhhh... Well since the Wii has come out, all the Gamecube hardware is off the shelves... I think..." - Bless his heart.

I'd say they're just sold out and no-one even mentioned it to this guy. Play-Asia may be getting my business yet! ;)

Id love it if their was an N64 style pad for Wii. That was my fave controller of all time.
