sister-ditpoker is broke and in desperate need of a part time job. I have on numerous occasions told her the best part-time student jobs going is dealing at poker tournaments like JP Poker, GJP, etc with the big pay days when the festivals come to town. so any advice as to how to teach dealing to someone who knows ZERO about cards...

    i figure...
    1. how to riffle a deck of cards.
    2. hand rankings.
    3. practice.

    anything else?!

Get you or one of your mates to show her? Then it's just practice and speeding up.

Organise home STTs with your family or mates, get her to deal and try to ignore your mates eyeing her up.

It's difficult to teach someone to deal who doesn't already know how to play the game. Some of the festivals seem to take pretty much anyone but best to get her to play a little bit first.

Jeff this is akin to you posting about Jason Orange or whatever it was a few months back!

And besides there is always the three year plan.....

Anyway I reckon the first thing you do is make her play for half an hour a day on the play money tables online so she can understand what poker is and how it works, that requires absolutely zero work from you, next you tell her how to shuffle properly and get her to do this a countless number of times until she can do it perfectly, then you tell her how to sort out side pots etc,
then you make her deal at your home games thus showing her to put the pot here the much cards here and to deal flop, turn and river here, here and here.

Dealing cards isnt exactly an art form....

From all the comments i take the sister is of the underage variety, which got me thinking(non-pervertedly).

Do you have to be over 18 to play poker? I presume the casinos are all over 18 for practical purposes, but in a pub tornie or something, would you have to be over 18?

If you get her dealing and she deals to me at a rate of 2 hands per hour I will not be pleased. If you are trying to carducate (great word isn't it?) her then you better make sure she is not ridiculously slow and can count chips, the two most important aspects for me.

get her to deal out 5 cards face up (remembering to burn and turn) and practice identifying the nuts, second nuts, third nuts etc.

tell her to wear a low-cut top and she`l be fine in 90% of tables

i saw luke in the fitz doing that "identify the 1st 2nd 3rd 4th nuts" thing with a new dealer. and getting her to play the play money tables could work too.

    cheers.

As far as dealing goes, knowing the general rules, button moving betting rules, being able to cut chips and being able to shuffle is far more important than being able to identify the nuts, all you have to be able to do is judge from peoples expressions who won the pot, start pushing the pot that way, if people shout, push in the opposite direction.

    Granted.

Ditpoker, why don't you bankroll her for 5 10 or something and tell her she can keep half the profits?
