Really looking forward to this, got some great reviews. Has there been a european release date yet?

I wouldn't trust IGN lately. They gave some great games lately bad reviews, namely Earth Defence Force (sounded like they had a blast and then marked it down for not being technically proficient) and God Hand (Don't understand why at all). Seems SPM was marked down for having too much text and the 3D sections looking flat (newsflash, this is paper mario afer all).

F*cking Hell... are they trying to piss people off?

If it's half as good as Paper Mario 2, it'll be a blast and worth owning. Pity we have to wait until after the Summer.

Roll on Datel's Freeloader for the Wii.

whatever about the graphical elements, the text part does irk me a bit. all the videos i've seen show an awful lot of scrolling through text. i dislike this, a lot. if i wanted lots of text i'd pick up whatever book i'm reading right now, instead of read a mario game. this is probably why i don't like animal crossing, pokemon and all that stuff :)

    Pokemon is the greatest game.

    Is there any other sort?

Super Monkey Ball is pretty good too though in the creatures in balls genre...

Clearly creatures in balls makes your game a sure fire hit.

I say "Crash Bandicoot in Large Balls".

    Sounds like a hit.

How about "Thing on a Spring in a Ball"?

'Super MonkeyBall Deluxe: Magic Roundabout Movie Tie-In'?

I probably shouldn't reference obscure games from over 20 years ago...

How about bouncing-babies-in-a-ball? :D *wonders how many others know this oldie*

Loved Paper Mario - TTYD, and Mario and Luigi so I've no doubt that I'll love Super Paper Mario :D The text doesn't bother me, if the script writing is up to the Paper Mario/Mario and Luigi standard then all the better! :D

Ball in a cup! It's a ball, it goes in the cup, don't worry if you drop it, it's on a string! Ball in a cup!

Oh no! I didn't catch the ball in the cup! Oh, wait a minute, it's ok, because the ball is on a string and attached to the cup! :D

Reckon its going to be nice, although Edge did take a poke at it because it was a late transfer from the GC and apart from the pointing at the screen mechanic there is little that couldn't be done, although perhaps the fact that no one would have bought the game on the GC could have been a deciding factor fot Nintendo.
Actually I've been playing it for the last few days and its brilliant, very god indeed.

What a great game. I haven't played any Paper Mario games before, but I thoroughly enjoyed playing it for 2 hours this evening.

    Top stuff!

Got this on Sunday, great game! Who would have expected any less from Intelligent Systems. The gobs of text is because this is an RPG-platformer. It goes a little deeper in the story than your typical mario platformer :P The 2d-3d flipping thing is really quite awesome, and breathes much more life into the game than I expected it would.

Some things are really hard to spot in 2d, but once you've seen them in 3d they're obvious in 2d and you wonder why you didn't notice :)
I've seen some cunning uses of this in the levels I've played through so far that makes me sit back and think of the developers "you cheeky buggers!". Hopefully the level design will continue being this creative throughout the game.

Unfortunately, it's a bit easier to be in 3d for much of the time than I would have liked. It becomes fairly standard to switch to 3d every few seconds just to glance around for hidden items, instead of having to resort to 3d when you're well and truly stuck.

And there's no button to run :( At least so far. 1 on the wiimote seems like you can change what function it performs by meeting certain characters, though I haven't played for that long and have only met one such character so far.

You can also point the wiimote at anything interesting on the screen and get a bit of text blurb about it, which provides extra fleshing out that I love in games :)

    That'll be solved later on.

Hmm. It seems to have some DS connectivity feature (recipes?) that isn't yet enabled. It says something like "awaiting update" when you try it. I can't find any information about it on the web...

edit: oh, heh. Just altered my google search ("connectivity" instead of "link"). It turns out it's not a connectivity thing after all :(

does anyone else kinda think paper mario would make a great DS title rather than wii?
i realllly love the paper mario games! most rpgs just freak me out with their vastness unless i have a guide to help me when im lost, paper mario is always just the right amounta fun!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,561 ✭✭✭Rhyme

I hate the way they published their Q2 list and Super Paper Mario disappeared (at least until July), then someone let's slip a date late in May and now nothing... it's gotten so bad that i'm listening to the Super Paper Mario soundtrack on my pc :(

    :D

And who says FG stopped being funny after season 3? :)

Anyway, I've never heard of this paper mario thing...is mario made of paper in it?!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,745 ✭✭✭doonothing

yes he is! it's after the super mario rpg on the snes, kinda like mario but with platforming mixed with final fantasy, it is EPIC!!! and really funny, the scripts are always GAS.

I'm really looking forward to this, I've loved all the other Mario RPGs and I've heard only good things about this one.

Why do we have to wait so long for it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,977 ✭✭✭GhostInTheRuins

Can't wait for this one, i've looked at a few videos of it and i gotta say it looks damn cool!

The game is sweet, packed full of in jokes, its script is funny and yes, this would make an ace DS game, perhaps a sequel, top screen showing 2D bottom screen 3D, a bit like the old C64 game Parallax.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,745 ✭✭✭doonothing

well my whistle is whetted... they better make it happen!
even an n64/gamecube port of a previous paper mario would do nicely
