Can anyone suggest bright, long-lasting roundwound strings that aren't overly expensive? Preferably taperwound and a 5-string set. And if anyone knows a cheap site to get them from, that'd be super too. :D

    Thanks.

    Dean Markley SR2000

Get em off ebay, about €25 per set including shipping, plenty of stores to choose from.

I bought the same set from that same fella. I sent him money via paypal. A week or so later the strings I was looking for arrived with the postman. It's not that dodgy now, come on! :p

    Try www.lordofthestrings.com

I have bought from them a good few times and found them very good. They have a good selection. I think they are based in the Netherlands. A set of Daddarios from them was a lot cheaper than in Ireland (surprise surprise !! ) including shipping and I recieved them within a week.

Try www.webstrings.com, grand strings for the price.

Webstrings are decent but aren't bright, nor taperwound.

D;Addario and Ernie Ball are the ones I'd recommend. Bass strings last ages but they're pretty dear,

Cant go wrong with Dr Lo-Riders. Lovely strings, but I might give them Dean Markleys a bash on the new Yamaha.

How long are they supposed to take to get here? I ordered them sunday, got an email confirming they'd been sent on Monday.... No sign of em!

If they're coming from America, it'll be at least next week, possibly the week after

Ok simple question here for all you bassheads like me. Im in the need of a new set of strings and although i just normally get a set of regular ernie balls from musicstore or the like(no shop sells 5 strings in tralee :( ).

Now ya see theese strings are grand enough but i wanna experiment a little as people keep on saying how much a different set of bass strings can alter the playability of a bass and its tone.

Ok i want a 5 string set, i suppose a bit of a heavier string set gauge than standard as i tune a step down. Looking for a sound ala fightstar (love em or hate em thats one CLASS bass tone) Somthing bright yet smooth if you get me.

If bass strings were as cheap as guitar strings id make some guesses but the grim reality is there not so your help would be apreciated. And yes i know, it sure did take me long enough to learn bout bass strings :P

http://www.thomann.de/ie/warwick_42301m_red_label.htm Heavy enough low string, should sort ya out. They were recommended to me by the good Doctor so they should be decent. Plus they're quite cheap. Haven't restrung my bass yet with them but will soon.

The Doc advised me on these a few years ago and I haven't looked back, apart from the difficulty I had trying to find somewhere that sold them.

Strings And Beyond is the only place I found that sells them. If you're lucky, they will give you a small bundle of plectrums and a fridge magnet (they did for me every time so far), and 'Bob' might leave a happy note for you too.
