Alcohol - A sin?

i suppose i should have just started a new thread for this, but what would be the view of Christains on drinking alcohol? I like to drink but my mother who is a Christain is always telling me that its a sin. I do believe in God and feel incredibly blessed with the life and opportunities that He has given me but do feel (like probably most people) that i fall short and do things that i shouldnt be doing....

just wondered if anybody else had any thoughts on this or what does the bible say on drinking?

Getting sloshed is a sin, drinking when underage is probably immoral as you should obey the law if it is moral. You should generally obey your parents too. Bur jesus made wine, drank wine.

And I'd like to point out that at Caina he made anywhere from 150-180 GALLONS of THE BEST WINE

so Jesus thinks alcohol is ok but probablly getting sloshed isn't.

I personally dont drink but I dont begrudge those who do.

Clearly Jesus didnt like people having to drink water when the wine ran out, but where does he suggest that getting sloshed probably isnt? And did he not give a clearer direction than 'probably'?

    Gluttonly is a sin.

Alcohol in excess is a sin. It is mentioned in many of Pauls letters, Corinthians especially.
But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
and in the proverbs of King Solomon also.

Wouldn't 'drunkard' be more an alcoholic or a persistent drunk? I would have thought the main problem with getting sloshed is that you are more likely to sin while drunk, because of impaired judgement.

As a former alcoholic, now happily cured of that affliction, I choose not to drink.

Getting drunk is, according to the Bible, wrong.

Jesus drank wine, as a Christian I believe Jesus was sinless, so therefore drinking alcohol is no sin.

I'll quote the Proverbs of Solomon.
Drinking too much makes you loud and foolish. It's stupid to get drunk.
God Himself gave Solomon wisdom. Hence Solomon is providing the wisdom of God to us.

Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18)

I get kinda drunk after 1 or 2 glasses of wine so to say getting drunk is a sin means poor old jesus couldnt have drank much !!

I think as with all things jesus wants us to enjoy our life in a good honest and decent way and not waste our time worring about whether 2 glasses of wine is a sin or not ....Because wasting your life is a far bigger sin .

As i say if its good enough for jesus its good enough for me .

Well drinking wine because there's bacteria in the water that alcohol kills and there isn't tons of choice is a little different to drinking for the sake of it...
