why paypal?

    hi guys hope yer all well
    im over in the states for 6 months and was advised by a few people to use paypal instead of other forms of money transfer methods
    firstly i need to find out what paypal is and qhy its better than traditional methods of payment

    Depends what you use it for and how much money you are talking about transferring and where. Paypal is not a bank. Some people love it, some hate it. All you need to know.

    Why not just use your ATM card over there?

    The vast majority of Irish cards work in the US.

    Seems odd to use Paypal to manage your day to day money, you really don't have any control over your money in it and are at the mercy of paypal. At least with proper banks they have to ask permission to wipe your account etc except in exceptional circumstances.

    Use an ATM card over there to take money out. Use a credit card to spend it in shops. Have someone at home Western Union you the money as you need it (bit more costly and messy though).
