REALLY annoying things they say incessantly in 24

I like 24. Season 6 is particularly good (though I'm still waiting for the 'he's only the minor villan, here's the REAL villan' moment).

    However, there are a few things the characters say A LOT that I think is lazy on behalf of the script writers. Here are two examples;

"...but right now I need you to..."
How many times has Jack and to a lesser extent others used this line to not answer questions? Agghhh.

    "Fayed's country'
OK, so they are not going to name an actual country but this sounds sooooo crass every time they say it. Please make them stop. They could have made up a country, at least.

    Discuss.

For me it has to be, "We're twenty minutes out". This of course coincides with the climax of the hour. We laugh every time we hear it.

Or when Jack get pinned down with some innocent guy and and he says. "Trust me, we'll get through this together".

The poor bastard always gets shot...

    Or

"Cloe - patch me through to the president".

    Others that come to mind:
"I'm sending you his picture now."

"But that's just not enough time."

"With all due respect Mr. President"

"We have to keep him alive." - this is where they need some information from a baddie so he is chosen to be kept alive, whilst all the baddies' helpers are just left to rot on the ground.

"I'm sorry" - not irritating in itself but in the context - for example, a guy who Jack thought was bad (but wasn't really that bad) gets accidentally killed whilst being tourtured and Jack has to explain to his loved one - that kind of scenario.

    SCEMATICS

I wish to God they would stop putting that word in the script for Chloe.

"You need level 5 clearance". Didn't stop half the CTU ones before, won't stop them now.

From all the seasons with Kim Bauer ''daddy, i love you'' reply by Jack '' i love you too sweetheart, everythings going to be fine''

Im sorry but these phrases NEED to be used LESS often, namley:

    ''Dammit''
    ''Son of a bitch''
    ''Scematics''
    ''Secure Satellite''
''Lock down CTU'' (Moles, nerve gas, what next, Edgar farting??)
'' I promise you, we are going to get through this'' (HOW many times has Jack said this in many diffrent forms to the same people??)

"within the hour" Everything is always within the hour, it's never an hour and a half or two hours time. Usually it's said right at the beginning of an episode so you know the final minutes are going to come to some sort of head.

In this season the whole "Fayed's country" and "their government" thing went on for too long. Why not just say Durkastahn and get it over with.

"Open another socket in the server" - what does it MEAN?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 751 ✭✭✭Chillwithcian

    I agree

    1) "Patch that through to my screen"
    2) "Open a port / socket"
    3) "Jack's going against protocol".
    4) "Do your job"..
    5) Many variants of "there's no time to do this by the book", so I'm going to shoot this suspect in the head, break one of my own agent's arms, blah, blah, blah.
    6) Any time Tony Almeida opens his cake hole.

I absolutely love Chloe - the archetypal Asberger's Syndrome (poor social skills but good with computers, numbers etc) geek.... "Do your job, dammit. What do you mean you can't do your job right now? Because your sister is infected with some disease and is going to die a horrible death / your mother was in the fallout zone and is going to die a horrible death? Is it? Is it?"

That phone ring does my head in (I've only seen up to Series 4, maybe they've changed it).

Opening a socket or port generally means to allow another computer access to the server. I'd imagine that CTU all those servers would be locked down to only allow those who absolutely needed access to the information on it.

I love the phone ring tones. I won't be accused of spoiling it for you by telling you whether they change them in the later seasons. :p

Nooo! I love those ring tones. In a previous job I had one of those phones and it took all my willpower not to answer with something like "Are you sure this is a secure line Agent Bauer?":D

That phone ring is the tone used for the phone's in my office. Every time the phone rings I half expect the clock to start ticking...

I would kill for that tone in work! I'd feel like I could patch into a military satellite at any time.

Well at least they stopped hacking the firewalls.. In the previous seasons they were breaking into a firewall every 15 minutes, and you could know they were in trouble when Cloe said they have to get through 5-6 firewalls.

Now they're just opening sockets. Looks like someone did a find&replace on the script. "Sockets sound better, people are tired of firewalls"

Which reminds me.. I need to add 3-4 more firewalls to my PC, I feel a terrorist threat is imminent.

CTU has more 'secure' phone lines then any US goverment buildings......'Patch me through...is this a secure line''...how often is that said???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,190 ✭✭✭Haven't a Clue

I've also gotten sick of CTU's recruitment policy. Like, how many moles can a goverment agency have?

If my memory serves me correctly, theres been at least 2 each season
