There are three players left in a tournament, and player X gets knocked out. Where does the botton go to?

And the button goes to... 15 votes

Always the player that was SB (or BB if SB was knocked out).

Always in such a way that nobody is BB twice in a row.

Its never a set player, depends who goes in last round, SB, BB & Dealer.
The blinds also switch places, so this messes it up a bit.
I always work it so that the BB moves. I am open to correction on this, but always work on the assumption that you shouldn't be BB twice. Unless the BB is eliminated this will mean the button going to the previous BB.

If the previous dealer is knocked out, the previous BB is the button
If the previous SB is knocked out, the previous BB is the button
If the previous BB is knocked out, the previous SB is the button

Yeah, what Mellor said. The general rule is, of the remaining players, whoever was the BB last gets the button.

I've never seen it done any other way than what Mellor describes. But apparently the one person here who has run a poker room thinks you can be the BB twice, but never the button twice. Care to elaborate, Nicky?
