I wipe my bros pc, reinstalled windows pro xp on it, installed all his drivers and microsoft office. He installed some software for his camera and was greated with a blue screen with the output below (edited a little) when he booted up the PC the next time.

I reinstalled it again, did the same as above. It lasted another month or so then the same thing happened after his daughter installed some other software (think it was a game).

I'm guessin its something got to do with HDD? Maybe the readwrite heads are screwed.
Problem detected and Windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.

    Unmountable_boot_Volume

If this is the first time you seen this screen, restart computer.
    Else follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software was properly installed. If this is new installations, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware/software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching & shadowing. If you need to use safe mode hit F8 etc….

    Tech info

    **** STOP: 0x000000Eb etc.....

Any help would be fantastic lads...

    thanks

Has come up a few times I think, the file system could be damaged. Have a gawk here(most likely at the Damaged File System part) and try some of the steps shown there.

To fix this issue, either remove hard drive from machine, slave it in another computer and run a scan disk on it through Disk Management, or boot from an XP reinstall CD....select the Recovery Console and type chkdsk /f.
This will scan the filesystem and sectors on your hard drive and hopefully remove the boot volume error allowing you to boot the machine again.
