    Hi All

I'm off to Sydney in 2 weeks and I need to sort out my Inurance.

Anyone know who is the best for this?

I booked my tickets with Trailfinders and their Insurance which I think covers everything costs €200 for 4 Months?

    Is this expensive?

    Any help would be great

    Cheers!

If you're a VHI member you can get annual travel insurance for €49. Otherwise try Getcover, Ace or any of the major banks.

EDIT: Sorry, not sure if the VHI one will cover you for that long

I used them for a five week trip to australia.

Easy to buy online, never had to make a claim so no idea what they're like if something goes wrong.

The VHI insurance will only cover you for up to 60 days.

I bought a policy from ACE for a three month trip around Southeast Asia and Australia. Worked out at €100, which was cheaper than all the other quotes I got. They supply the insurance for AIB, but it's cheaper to buy it direct from ACE. They e-mailed out a policy and other info a few minutes after I bought it. I called them to ask some questions and their call centre seems to know their stuff and very friendly.

I went for GetCover which seemed to be around €20 less than ACE.

    :)

I hope it is right etc! Don't have a clue about these things!

Just double check the maximum number of days the travel insurance covers. Are you backpacking in Australia? If so I think you need specific insurance for that. Make sure you check the small print before committing.

I've studied all these policies from ace, getcover, fyi etc and they will only cover your expenses whilst in a foreign hospital, and once fit to travel, insist on you returning home, whereupon you are no longer covered for any further expenses. So if you have an accident and are badly injured abroad, you will be covered in the foreign hospital, up until you are fit to get on a plane (don't need to be able to walk or anything, just to get on a plane), and then you are out of their hands. You would need irish medical insurance to continue receiving insured hospital/medical treatment.

They only policy that I can find that will cover you abroad and at home is vhi global.

I'm just wondering if people have factored this into their plans when getting travel insurance.
