Bringing a huge pile of change to the bank

I was doing soime fundraising over the weekend for some volunteer work I'm doing over the summer, and I have over two thousand euro in small change that I need to bring to the bank - does anyone know how many coins of each denomination you put into the change bags? I have a vague recollection that you need €50 in €2 coins but I can't remember for anything else... I need to know roughly how many bags I need to get!

Yes I know that, but the banks are closed today and like I said, I need to know how many to pick up tomorrow!

    Thanks johnp!

If you've got that many coins and it's a local country bank that's not too busy maybe they'll let you run it through their coin sorter? I don't envy you having to count all that out!

Haha I know I have already counted it though, €2159.75 in coins, I'm going to try to find more coins in my house so I can round it all up to get rid of as much of it as possible! Can't really complain though, I wasn't even expecting to get a thousand euro so it's worth all that counting and sorting to have that amount of money!

I did a massive count-up the other day, of all my loose change. I had over €800.

I was out fund raising on Saturday and I'm really not looking forward to having to count it up. Even ironing is being prioritised over it!

I got about 100 euro in change every 2 months or so .. it's nice to cash it in at work :)

I used to use them coin counting machines, they had them in some Eurospars. You chuck the money into them and they count the money, give you a receipt of what it counted and you get the money at the checkout. There is a fee for it though, not sure how much but with over 2000 eurons I probably wouldn't use it. :)

I work in a busy big name bank in Dublin, and we don't have such a thing as a coin sorter so I wouldn't really advise going anywhere near a bank if the coins aren't sorted. I can't stress enough, if you don't have the correct coins in the correct bag etc., you'll find it very hard to get them changed.

I know that one! Having spent 3 hours sorting change from a charity drive into separate bags, I went across to the bank to change it and the teller spotted one misplaced coin and told me that she wouldn't take any of it till I was all perfect - 'Its not my job to count your charity change, ok.'

I know it isn't her job, but she wasn't very nice about it. Point is - make sure everything is in order! :)

Also some banks wont to change on certain days. I was in BOI Blanchardstown village a few months ago and spotted a sign saying they only do it on certain days.
Worth making a phonecall beforehand, just in case.

What a geebag. It is her job to not be rude though. You should have told her it wasnt change in the bags, it was a bunch of gees. For her. Like her face.

I've been doing heaps of coin counting myself. It keeps me busy and I know exactly how much I can pay myself each hour :)

Something simmilar happened to me too and the girl behind the counter had a right go at me and very loudly so everyone behind could hear her.
Now I double check all the bags, because god forbid they need to take a single coin out of the pile. For your own sake make sure it's all correct.

Most large supermarkets have coin sorters that they might be prepared to let you use since it's for charity...

If you are using a coin-sorter, make sure there's no foreign coins in there. I've had lots of fun wondering why it kept clogging up with one time ... all down to foreign coins. They work well and save all that hardship of manual counting.

I don't bother bring it to the bank. They they look down at you. The local shop is much happier to be getting my change.

Do the banks charge you for cashing in bags of coins these days?

The commercial money sorter in the local shop takes a fee of 6% out of your money.
Thats 120E with 2000E so I guess it depends on the person really.

No they don't. A business can be charged.

Just seperate the different coins in to money bags. They cant complain, all they have to do then is throw it in a machine.

They are free, just get a load of them. You can bring the extra ones back...
