Rubber strips on road

    Hi,

Just something I've been curious about for a while but never really got around to ask about...

Occasionally I've noticed a pair of black rubber strips across the road that are usually connected to some equipment at the side of the road. They're usually temporary. Anyone got an idea what these are?

My guess is that they're there to count the cars that use the road, but I still slow down when I drive over them on the off-chance that they're attached to a speed camera - dumb I know :)

    thanks!

Generally a sign the road is being upgraded or a bypass is on it's way:D :D:D

Yeah - thats usually the way. Recently I've seen these on the Firhouse Road and the Ballycullen Road - both of which are decent roads and dont really need upgrading (upgrading of the western end of the Firhouse Road is already under way). I know the Knocklyon Road is due to be realigned with the new Spawell bridge - so maybe it's something to do with that.

(I tried to post some links but the South Dublin County Council site appears to be down :( )
