Focus vs Civic vs Mazda3 ?

    hi
am looking at getting a 3 year old low mileage hatchback, for weekend sporting trips mainly. interested in something practical while being reasonably nice to drive, as a long term buy.

currently looking at ford focus, mazda 3, civic. open to alternatives although not interested in bmw/alfa type stuff really (too costly/too much hassle to run).

have driven the mazda 3 (liked it, found the suspension slightly harsh but definitely gave good feedback, felt like good engines). like the styling of the focus (old style) but slightly concerned it won't be as reliable as the mazda. never driven the civic but its supposed to be bulletproof.

living in UK so should cost the equivalent of 10k euro (civic and mazda bit more expensive than the focus).

any comments or thoughts? any alternatives you'ld like to suggest?
