Does anybody know where i can get a Dreamcast in Ireland. I tried ebay but the people try to rip you with the postage. One guy was looking for £42.50 which is about £25 more than i paid for a saturn and thats a heavy bugger. If anybody in Dublin has one for sale i'll glady take it off your hands(will collect and give reasonable price).

Spotted one in the buyand sell www.buyandsell.net if you wanna take a look...
    1 controller, 1 game - 25 euro - seems like a good price

Just seen another with 3 games for 140...same site

I might have one for sale next week but no guarantees. Half of it is here in Germany and the other half of the stuff is in Ireland. There would be too much to post, madcat steering wheel, lightgun, keyboard, vga adapter and I can't remember what games. Shenmue, MSR, 2 Res Evil games, House of the Dead, Ferarri f???, Colin McCray are some of them, prob a couple more. I would have to get what I have here back to Ireland. I'm back next week but don't think I'll have room to bring it with me. If I've room I'll send you a PM but like I said I don't think I will. Keep an eye out on adverts.ie if you've no luck getting one as I'll prob have it on there within the next few months!

I am DESPERATE for one as well.

ebay is ruined by the ridiculous postage costs.

The Book exchange shop in tabot st (the one under the railway bridge, cant remember the exact name )is probably a good bet , They sell a lot of DC games second hand and deal in consoles so you might be lucky .It might still be cheaper off ebay as I reckon you'd be talking
    50quid or so.
(after a quick google it may be bookmart 8363103..possibly.)

Postage is where most people seem to make money on ebay sales lately (in that ebay charge a percentage of the items sale price, but not the postage) hence the crazy postage prices , I spent about 70 quid on a c64 from the UK a while back , 50 of which was postage I think in the end.(by the same logic , if anyone in Ireland fancies selling me an atari 800xl let me know :) .)

Tifosi1 have u tried the buy and sell yet??? Those 2 I mentioned above are based in Dublin!!! Maybe u tried and they have already gone so if so that shop under the railway bridge is your best bet, I've been there once or twice and they had lots of vintage/classic stuff

I have one thankfully, with almost the full set of released games and some unreleased, half life and Unreal Tournament. They are certainly worth getting but make sure you get a US cast that plays cdrs. I dont think the European (blue) versions can do it.

Euro ones do too. I have a version 1 European DC and it does CD-Rs. Check under the DC to find out the region and version.

I have a Dreamcast with about 30 of the most popular games, two offical controllers, two vmu's, fishing rod, the official keyboard, rf and composite cables as well as a VGA adapter box.
What would you guys be willing to offer on this lot? I don't play it so much, so it's really only taking up space on me.

It's in absolutely perfect nick btw.

I'd be up for the fishing rod! If it's taking up too much space :)

You shouldn't sell it if you still have Shenmue, that game is far too good to let go.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭JC 2K3

    ^Agreed.

If Shenmue 3 ever does come out you'll be crying that you can't play Shenmue 1 again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭FlimFlam

eo980, do all your games have the original box and manual?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,039 ✭✭✭✭Kintarō Hattori

    Hey Flimflam,

They most certainly do. They are all in excellent condition.

Yeha guys I know, but I don't really play them anymore and we live in a one bedroom apartment, so they just take up space. I'll only be parting with them though if I get a decent offer on them though. I like the idea of having them and playing them someday, but the extra money could always be useful though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,585 ✭✭✭Jerichoholic

You are missing some essentials off your list:

    Daytona
    Evolution
    NFL 2K2
    NBA 2K2
    Giant Gram
    Wacky Races
    etc.

Have you tried the emulation on the Cast? Mostly it's just great!

I used to use DreamSNES, but then I got an Xbox and modded it, and xSnes9x is much better.

If you are serious about selling, post an ad, with an asking price, and let the market decide :)

I'd be very very, very interested in that lot, and I'm sure lots of other people would too ... go on, do the right thing! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,039 ✭✭✭✭Kintarō Hattori

Well I was thinking about putting it on adverts but I was looking here to try and get some idea of it's market value. I don't particuarly want to end up selling it for €100!!!

You'll be lucky to 100 for it in all fairness!

Hmnn I'm certain it's worth more, sure Shenmue I and II would fetch €20 each on their own.

ehhhh ... i think 100 would be low, given the games involved ... so long as they were in good nick.

@eo980 ... if you have pics & details ... post them and ask for a price check ... i would bet good money you will see interest on adverts.ie if you post there ... i for one will be very interested.

go on ... post an ad, let the market decide ! :D

    Hey Guys,

Pics attached, of the games and the hardware. 33 games in total, all in EXCELLENT condition with manuals and cases. Extra hardware too.

Any idea of what the value of this lot would be? I'm selling off various bits and pieces that I don't use anymore and will either get a laptop or PS3 with the moola. It's all in perfect working order, I just don't have that much time or interest in it anymore.

BTW - I have tried uploading an ad to adverts for something else and it just seems to be refusing to list it so don't know when and if this will go up!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭JC 2K3

I'd take Shenmue 2 off your hands for €20 if you were willing to sell it seperately.

(I'm cursed with this Xbox version)

Thanks JC, I'll hold off for the moment, I'm just trying to get a valuation on the above and ideally I'd love to sell it in one go. If I do decide to list it on adverts I'll give you a heads up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭JC 2K3

I'd price that at over €300, but I doubt anyone would pay more than €200-250 for it. You'd probably end up with more if you sold the better/more desired games seperately, since Shenmue 1 and 2 tend to sell for €15-20 alone(hint: see my above offer).

The console + peripherals alone are probably worth about €60-80.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,039 ✭✭✭✭Kintarō Hattori

Hmnn thanks for the guideline. Don't worry I'll keep you in mind for Shenmue 2!

Just saw a bunch of ads for the DC on Buy&Sell, savage prices, machine with 10 games for 200!, console with 12 games and controllers for 385, this is nuts!
I mean the machine is a classic but not worth that sort of cash, no way.
This is the penalty for wanting a machine not made anymore, there is always some louser willing to exploit the market.

The problem with selling DC's with large collection is , well basically any DC I've ever come across will play games on cdr's pretty much out of the box. so its possible for someone who wants to build up a large collection to buy a dc and a controller for peanuts , and use DC++ (I'm talking about direct connect here not dreamcast)or usenet or torrent sites to nab iso's and build up a collection pretty quickly.(this of course is bad and wrong and makes baby jesus cry etc)

So a DC with a large collection of games wouldnt be as marketable as say a megadrive and a load of games etc.

Good luck with sale though eo980.

I think you may be missing the point ;) The reason people buy old consoles and games is because they want the old cases, manuals and bits of free junk. It's like collecting first edition comic books and not photo compies of them!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 3,186 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dr Bob

um..possibly.Using the old meg as an example
A lot of people would want to build up a collection of ..say , megadrive games to play on the original machine ,as playing them on a PC/xbox whatever just isnt the same , whereas a DC with a lot of cdrs feels exactly the same as a dc with original disks.
With the mega drive you've got two markets someone who wants to play their old games the way they used to years ago , and the collector.Whereas with a DC you may not have that first market and are relying on people who want a library of originals ..
not sure if I'm explaining this right.

Anyway this is going a bit off topic.

It should be pointed out that quite a few, and generally the best, DC games are too big to put on a CDR or have had video downsampled, sounds removed, texture quality reduced etc. get the game to fit on a CDR and often have longer loading times this way.

I'd have downloaded Shenmue 2 ages ago if they hadn't removed all the voice files - essentially the reason I want Shenmue 2 on DC as opposed to Xbox in the first place is the Japanses voices.

My DC's seems having trouble playing CDRs these days too, although I could just be cos using a different brand of CDR and different program to burn them than ages ago when I used to burn DC CDRs(and proceeded to lose/break all of them).

Games Exchange on Talbot St. will. Is it the common resetting all the time bug? If so I can tell you how to take apart the DC step by step and fix that. Tis quite easy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,372 ✭✭✭The Bollox

no, unfortunatly it's the turner itself. It works the first time, but if I switch it off and on again (like changing disc) it won't turn itself. so I'll have to leave it a good long while (a few days at least) until it works again. I have no idea what I did to it!

Sounds like the power supply board could be on it's way out. There are 3 important voltages marked on the power supply board near where the 6-pin connection is. If you have the means and knowledge to test the voltages there, you should check them (3.3V, 5V and 12V, or something similar). IIRC, the 5V is needed for the GD-ROM unit, so it could be that one that is faulty. If it is the power supply board that is at fault, you'd probably need some technical knowledge to be able to fix that, finding out which component is at fault.

I've snapped up some cheap faulty DC's over the years, usually £1 + £5 P&P on eBay, and most have just had the resetting fault, easily fixed by cleaning the 6-pin connection. I've only seen one that had a faulty power board.

To the guy (eo980) trying to sell off his collection, best to try to sell off individually, should get about €2-€5 a peice, nothing rare there. Shenmue should get €10-€15, Shenmue 2 should see €25+. Some great games in there, but not worth much really. Whatever doesn't sell, maybe groups of 3, 4 might help trying to shift them. Nice collection though, no real turkeys in that list.

  • Moderators Posts: 5,580 ✭✭✭Azza

eo980 I might consider taking the lot off you if you still have it. I'm considering starting a retro collection of the last few generations consoles and there best games. But the real reason is I just got an x-arcade controller and would like to find SNK 2 and Street Fighter 3 Third strike on that format as they can't be emulated. (can anyone help?)

So whats your asking price for the collection. I would like to take the lot in one go.

Finally is there any other really good games that are worth having on the Dreamcast that are not on his collection list)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 371 ✭✭biologikal

The list of games given above is pretty good, an excellent starting point for someone starting. Some missing would be Bangai-O, MvC1+2, Soul Calibur, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2, Mr. Driller, Bust-a-Move 4, Gunbird 2, House of the Dead 2 (get 2 guns!), Fur Fighters and Samba de Amigo. Lots of these can probably be gotten on other consoles, like the PS2 or Cube, but generally the DC ports are regarded as the best. Then of course there are a ton of new shooters that were only released in Japan, arcade-perfect games like Ikaruga, Psyvariar 2, Under Defeat, Trizeal, Zero Gunner 2, amongst others. Incredibly, there have been 2 or 3 released this year, unprecedented for a console that has been "dead" for about 5 years.

The best place on the net for DC game reviews is www.planetdreamcast.com. IMO, they've hit the mark consistently with all of their reviews.
