Is there a big difference between the speed of a 1.60ghz processor and a 1.80ghz processor?

I am still looking at laptops to buy and Dell always try and up-sell you to a better product at a higehr price and was wondering is there a need to get that slightly faster processor.

Both are Dual-Core Intel's by the way.

In day to day tasks such as word processing and internet, you will not notice any difference.

It's really a price vs. performance thing - are you willing to pay the extra 50-100 Euro (or whatever it is) for a perceived marginal increase in performance? Personally, I wouldn't, but there are people out there who need the extra horsepower. Number-crunching, CAD, games are the type of applications that may benefit from the extra speed.

There's also the factor of other components around the processor - bus, cache memory, etc., they may be different on the 1.8 Ghz processor, futher increasing the performance advantage.
