and i dont want to go for these modems or anything from vodafone etc.

I tried a 3G phone as a modem a while back. A Sony Erricsson V800i it was. Got around 300Kbps if I recall, very quick !!. It was expensive at the time but I think the prices per Kb of data have come down a bit.

3 network have some good deals on 3G phones but I don't know about their charges.

Bluetooth is an inheritantly slow technology anyway, so you'll probably still get slow connections.

Bluetooth 1.2 - which is minimum spec nowadays - is capable of up tp 700Kbps so it's well able to deliver GPRS, EDGE and UTMS speeds.

I've used GPRS ia bluetooth and it was painfully slow, but that's because GPRS is slow (up to 14Kbps I think ?) not bluetooth.

That was using a Nokia 6310i and an iBook. The V800i mentioned above was impressive though expensive to run.

Mobile data speeds are as follows:

Dial-up data (pay per second connected):
    CSD (Circuit-switched data): 9.6kbps or 14.4kbps
HSCSD (High Speed CSD - Vodafone only): up to 30-something kbps
Packet Data (pay per kilobyte, or pay per month):
GPRS: quoted up to 48kbps down/24kbps up, but really 35-40kbps down/15-20kbps up in good coverage
3G (UMTS): quoted 384/128 but really about 300/100 in good coverage
3G (HSDPA):being rolled out by the networks this year. quoted 3.6/1.8 megabits per sec down/up, but really 2.9/1.4 down/up. need HSDPA-compatible card to use HSDPA, but current 3G devices will use UMTS or GPRS anyway.

Bluetooth 2.0 is common (check your device specs) and allows up to 3mbits/sec, so no worries there.

PS: Yes, I do work for a mobile network provider, in the data area...:)
