Pioneer of British electronic music returns Orbital (aka Phil and Paul Hartnoll) were, for almost two decades, one of the most creative and influential electronic acts on the planet, recording their seventh and last studio album in 2004. Not content to rest on the laurels of past glory, Phil Hartnoll s new creative project is Longe Range, formed in conjuction with Nick Smith, an artist whose recording career for dance lables Dragonfly and Atomic Records has led to major film credits with Ridley Scott. Long Range's sound harks back to the ambient genius that was Orbital whilst transporting the listener into a more acoustic, atmospheric and filmic realm. From blissed out moments to jarred and broken beats, their eponymous album references a spectrum of genres and refuses to be pigeonholed. Hooking up with key vocalists and musicians the pair have met along the way, Long Range have combined 20 years of experience onto one record. Taking a break from adding the finishing touches to their long player, Long Range have remixed Clearlake s Neon for Domino Records - of Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand fame. And in a foray into the live arena at last year's Brighton Festival, Long Range joined foces with Chuck Palahnuik (Fight Club) and Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting) for a one-off collaborative happening. In a return to Orbital's legendary live form, the event transplanted creative impetus from the desktop to the live arena, with the writers and musicians jamming back and forth to build a multi-layered narrative in words, music and images.
2007 will see the release of the long awaited album, expect to see a lot more of these guys...

    Krafty Kuts

When you enter a DJ'ing competition, having never DJ'd before, and get to the finals, you know you must have chosen the right career path - Krafty Kuts was born. Having been responsible for the massively successful Finger Lickin' Funk EP, remixes of Flint and 2InDaBush as well as DJ'ing regularly under the Finger Lickin' banner, Martin is now firmly part of the Finger Lickin' family.
He was voted Best International DJ at the Australian Dance Music Awards and the Face of Breaks 2003 at the International Breakspoll Awards. These were the ultimate accolades for his efforts. However, this success didn't just happen overnight.
Krafty Kuts' first ventures on the wheels of steel occurred in the mid 80's when he was bitten by the hip-hop and Electro bug. It was during this period that he developed his cutting and scratching skills, which are now a trademark of his party rocking sets.
While Krafty Kuts was rocking down the house with his DJ skills, he was also busy working on his own music. In 1996 he was signed to FSUK, one of the Ministry of Sound's offshoot labels. 3 EP's were released to critical acclaim, along with 'Gimme the Funk'; a one-off release for Fatboy Slim's label Southern Fried that was hammered by every DJ worth their salt. The success of these releases led to Krafty Kuts becoming one of the most in demand remixers within the UK dance music scene. Today, the list of people Krafty Kuts has remixed reads like an A-List, including the likes of Jurassic 5, Utah Saints, Arthur Baker, Eric B & Rakim and the classic 'Humanoid' by Stakker Humanoid. His remixing talents were cemented at the 2003 International Breakspoll Awards, where he won Best Remix for Afrika Bambaataa's 'Funky Heroes'. As well as dishing out killer remixes, he's also managed to compile 'Slam The Breaks On' 1 & 2, both classic overviews of the breakbeat sound.
Whilst producing and remixing, Krafty Kuts has also managed to maintain his Djing commitments the world over, playing alongside such luminaries as Fatboy Slim, The Freestylers, Jungle Brothers, Scratch Perverts and Roni Size. Amazingly, Krafty still manages to hold down his residency club at Supercharged.
Krafty's seminal music has been used for a Coca-Cola advert, Playstation 2, and for Guy Ritchie's film 'Mean Machine'. In 2003, he, along with production partner A Skillz, released their album 'Tricka Technology' on Finger Lickin' Records to critical acclaim featuring hip hop legend Kurtis Blow as well as new talents Real Elements and ever reliable funky bass player Dr Luke.
Today, Krafty Kuts is still working harder than ever. At the 2004 and 2005 Breakspoll Awards he took out the much coveted BEST DJ award, also winning best Breaks DJ at the recent M8 awards in Ibiza and has been booked solid ever since. Krafty has also released his debut solo album on Against the Grain featuring collaborations with Tim Deluxe, Ashley Slater, Be Spoke, Dynamite MC, Dr. Luke, A.Skillz and the Scratch Perverts, among others. It was released to critical aclaim and won best album at this years Breakspoll awards, where he also picked up BEST DJ award for a record third time and Outstanding Contribution To Breakbeat.

    A Skillz

    www.myspace.com/djaskillz
At only 24 years old his incredible deck talents involve fusing funk, hip-hop and breaks with his unique style of scratching and mixing. His reputation as a true party rocker has won him prime-time slots across the UK at FabricLive, Spectrum, Chew The Fat, Supercharged, The Boutique and Sugarbeat as well as gigs around the world at major events, festivals and music industry parties such as The Hit Factory (New York), WMC (Miami) and Field Day (Sydney).
In 2003 A.Skillz released his debut album TrickaTechnology alongside Finger Lickin's very own Krafty Kuts. The album was a nod towards musical influences like De La Soul, James Brown and Jurassic 5, true Finger Lickin' Funk that enlisted the talents of some of the world's best hip-hop and funk artists including Kurtis Blow, Real Elements and Ashley Freakpower Slater.
February 2004 saw A.Skillz and Krafty Kuts team up on the TrickaTechnology Tour with live MCs from the album playing shows all over the UK. The duo then went on to DJ together leaving audiences and dance floors astounded with their skills on four decks and four CDJs, playing at Glastonbury Festival, Pacha (Ibiza) and a live session for Steve Lamaq on BBC Radio 1.
In October 2004 A.Skillz then embarked on his first solo tour of Australia which saw him play to sell out crowds in all major capital cities, gaining new fans and respect from fellow DJs along the way. He followed this by extensive gigs in the UK and a busy studio schedule producing music for Channel 4 (Talk Back), Renault (TV advert) and Sony Playstation (Gran Tourismo 4).
A.Skillz kicked off 2005 in January with a mini-mix for Annie Mac that was later voted best mini-mix of the year by Radio 1 listeners, beating industry heavyweights such as Basement Jaxx, Mylo and Scratch Perverts. He followed this with a series of remixes including The Fort Knox Five and a re-rub of his own track Simple Things. Highlight gigs last year included 10:15 (San Francisco), Snow Bombing (Austria) Mystery Lands Festival (Amsterdam) Homelands (UK), Live 8 After Show Party (London). Since October he has clocked up some serious air miles playing across Australia, Canada, America, Europe and returning to the UK to bring in the New Year at GPO in Ireland.
2006 is shaping up to be his biggest year yet. He is currently working on his first mix album for Finger Lickin Records whilst planning his next artist album which will see him team up with some major names for some seriously hot collaborations!

    Grooverider
    high_res_1150295028085868300grooverider.jpg
    www.myspace.com/djgrooverider1
Having been integrally involved within the UK Drum & Bass scene for well over 20 years, Grooverider has participated in and supervised it's evolution from it's early beginnings to now being an highly eclectic club culture; both regarded and revered globally for being one of the most dynamic and ever changing styles of electronic dance music.
Among Grooverider's lasting legacy will be not that he simply helped establish the genre, but also helped it grow and expand by exporting this energetic and progressive music to those who traditionally would not have listened to it. Speaking of his legendary Radio One show "It's not just about me and Fabio; it's a whole platform for Drum & Bass. It's about what's happening in drum & bass, taking it on the road and showing people who don't necessarily go to drum & bass parties that this is what we do." Taking the Radio One baton around the world Grooverider is constantly pioneering new music at the highest profile level possible.
Grooverider has had a profound influence on UK music in general and in several different capacities as he has successfully assumed the both mantles of being a pioneering DJ and Producer. He is also the recipient of countless underground and global dance awards but perhaps his most reputed achievement was the MOBO best DJ award he won in 2002. As long as he continues to play at massive events, produce great tunes and pursue his Radio 1 shows it is likely that he will receive many more awards yet and each one will be deserved.

    Dillinja & Lemon D
    valve-sound-system.jpg
    www.myspace.com/dillinjavalve
    www.myspace.com/lemonde73
Dillinja is one of the more prolific producers in jungle music - with records on over ten labels strong, two of them his own - Dillinja is one of the few drum'n'bass artists who spends more time in the production studio than in clubs. While living in Brixton in the early '90s, he became tipped to jungle by DJ Bryan Gee, who lived around the corner from him. Fascinated with the sound of drum'n'bass, Dillinja began recording in 1991, releasing tracks on Cybotron, Intelligent IQ, Conqueror, Logic, Lionheart, V, Philly Blunt, and his own Deadly Vinyl label. In 1994, he recorded "The Angels Fell" for Goldie's Metalheadz label and became one of the hottest names in jungle.
Lemon D can switch effortlessly from laid back soulful jazziness to the darkest and grimiest of drum n bass beats and b-lines, it is little wonder that he has firmly moulded his reputation as one of the most versatile producers in drum n bass today.
Together, they are the joint owners of the Valve Sound System - the world's first sound system designed and built specifically for drum n bass and its frequencies of deep bass which were all too often ignored by most club systems.

After years of immersing himself in early Hip-Hop and Miami Bass, and many other styles of music from Acid House to Industrial he happened upon Breakbeat, a sound which at the time was mainly coming out of Florida from artists like Icee and Dynamix II. Over the coming years decks were purchased and his lifelong obsession with the broken beat had firmly begun. In 1995 Simon returned to Ireland to find a distintive lack of Breaks, infact a lack of anything other than Hardhouse and Techno. He quickly decieded that this situation had to be altered and set about getting himself some gigs in and around Dublin, in order to get his sound heard. After numerous guest slots in clubs around the city he happened upon ZaZu, a subterainian sweatbox that was far from "Underground". Many meetings later with the owners, and with the help of some of Dublins biggest promotors Switch was born, and so was "Octane" Simon's first weekly breaks night. "Octane" ran for only one year, but more importantly it set the ball rolling for breaks in the capital. After a short hiatus from promoting, due to concentrating on his sound engineering career, Simon returned to the dance scene with Dublins finest breaks club to date, FOOD (F*ck Off Or Dance). FOOD ran for two years on Friday nights in Switch, and is still regarded as one of the most infamous Friday the capital had seen in a long time. Since its inception in 2001 FOOD has been responsible for bringing over some of the worlds biggest breaks players from, BLIM to Si Begg to Krafty Kuts, and have also showcased some of Irelands finest breaks DJ's and acts. With Numerous rescidency's and guest slots all over Ireland and beyond, and a new record label DMR, Simon F looks to be at the forefront of the Irish underground scene for quite sometime to come.
