As anyone who bothers to remember anything I’ve posted will know, I’m pursuing the eternal quest for knowledge by reading every religion-related book in my local library, so long as its nice and short and the author gets to the point.

It has occurred to me that I’ve found an amount of material just right to hand exactly when I’ve needed it. For example, just before Christmas I went in mindful of Dawkins and there was a virgin copy of ‘The God Delusion’ sitting on their new books shelf, waiting to be taken out. Yesterday, I went in looking for Albert Camus’ Myth of Sisyphus, because it’s the kind of book I’d like to be seen posing on the train with, and there it was waiting for me on the philosophy shelf – the only original text in the middle of a load of ‘Kierkegaard for Dummies’ type books. Similarly, I’m the first borrower. This leads me to believe I have a potential argument from design to answer.* As I see it the possible explanations are:

    1. It’s a library. It’s going to have books.

    2. There’s an atheist in charge of Kildare County Council library acquisitions.

    3. My own borrowing activities have caused a blip in the library management software.

    4. Satan is placing these materials into my hands as he wants to use me as a tool to spread dissention and error.

    5. God is placing these materials into my hands as he wants to use me as a tool to spread awareness that he has absolutely no interest in being worshipped, but doesn’t mind if we want to keep doing it if that’s what swings our jib.

    6. My studies are either causing or caused by eddies in the space-time continuum that may ultimately only be explicable in the context of a Unified Theory.

    Well?

*Note: Yes, I am taking the piss although the two coincidences did happen.

    Its a test. From God.

Y'know why? Because he's manically insane.

Definitely number 6. God is putting these books into your hands not for the reasons you might think, but for you to realise how futile life is without Him...

    I'll go for:

    7. your selective attention promotes certain books to apparent prominence (requires 1)

    cordially,

    8. Because everyone else in Kildare knows they will burn in hell if they were to take out said books.

    9. Albert Camus’ Myth of Sisyphus had simply been borrowed so many times the library replaced the sheet they stamp at the front with a new one, giving the illusion that it had not been borrowed by anyone before you.

My favourite was 6., but now I prefer this one.

    9. There is no spoon.

Well they're planning on building a new public library in my part of Limerick, there's too many academic books in UL's Library (tho the least number of books in an Irish University I hear) so with this fresh facility I should be able to put your hypotheses to the test. Maybe Limerick and Kildare will become entangled through books...

    Point six is interesting:

TGD and Camus may be popping into existence as you suggest, but can only do so because of fairly unlikely quantum field fluctuations, but you've observed that the books are sitting on the bookshelf without moving about. This means that you know both the position and the momentum of the books which violates the same Heisenberg principle which brought them into existence which leaves us impaled upon the horns of a dilemma. There are two ways out of this -- (a) either the books are built from virtual particles which don't need to obey Heisenberg (but we know that you had them for long enough to read at least the front page, so we can discount this possibility), or (b) some entity is specifically violating Heisenberg for your benefit, suggesting that either some deity is doing it intentionally, or else that satan and his mates are more resourceful than previously thought.

Either way, more research needs to be done. Having Dawkins and absurdist works popping into existence is hopeful. But I'd be concerned if the Quran or something by Jamie Oliver started doing this.

Keep your eyes peeled because Something is Clearly Up.

Ah you must be referrig to the Schuhart Certainity Principle. Which states that where as the momentum, position and existence of God may be unknown numerous books that describe the properties of god in a nice and short way where the author gets to the point do exist in alarming numbers.
